Oil filter

Featured Replies

Changed my oil and filter but the oil filter design has changed. Even though both Crossland with the SAME part number.

The old  element  had black plastic on both ends which clicked on whereas the new one was just a paper element that was a VERY tight fit to push on. I trust the new version did not need a new modified cap.

That bit that is in top of the filter is part of the cap I think, not part of the filter.

If you look at the black version it is stamped crossland and no way does it remove, I have fitted just the bare filter on the right. Should there be something else. The original filter was not crossland.

What year / engine is it ?

This is one of the reasons I always fit genuine or the OEM oil filters.

There are two OE styles of oil filter available for the htp.

The one on the left with the plastic/rubber end seals looks a bit like Mahle/Knecht OX360D style

The one on the right is a Mann HU710X style.

I think they are interchangeable, but don't quote me on it.  The Mahle style does seems to have more OE applications listed (OE cross references) than the Mann style.

I have only ever fitted the Mann filter on fabia mk 1 AZQ and mk2 BZG engines. The oil filter housings have a Mann Hummel logo cast into the lower alloy section.

The Mann style is a tight interference fit onto the long plastic bit in the cap (oil it up first to make it easier to push on) and that is how it achieves the filter inner to outer seal.

I think the Mahle version uses plastic/rubber end seals as an alternative method.

The RHS one looks to be an identical design to that used on my 2011 Audi S4 engine, and it comes with 2 replacement O-ring seals, one for the outside of the top cap and one that fits over the inner sleeve so that the filter element seals against the cap.

Edit:- and typically Audi original filter is branded as being a Mann which is what I now buy and fit.

They are not the same filter as the Audi S4.

The HU710x only comes with the large filter cap O ring. Interference fit on internal part so no other O rings required

Heres a pic of an OE filter. Note the MHO marking indicating supplier.

So the bottom line is this, I have fitted the filter on the right in my photo which looks like the OEM one above ,is that ok , were there two oilfilter housing types fitted to my 07 Fabia 1. 2htp. Should I try and source a filter similar to the one on the left, does anybody have a part number?

It will be fine.

If  I post my reg or engine/vin will I be able to get a definitive answer . My car is a 07 Fabia mk2 1.2htp

Cross-reference the Crosland part number and see if you get a match with the genuine part number shown in xman's post. If you do; it's fine.

As @Wino says, the right hand filter is perfectly fine and is a close clone of the OE filter. Nothing to worry about.

BTW Crosland is a budget brand filter, ECP owns the brand name and sources filters from places which can include India and China or faraway places you'd need to find on google maps.

I'd rather spend £1 more and buy Mann, Bosch or Mahle/Knecht all which are quality OE suppliers and likely to have significantly better filter media and construction.

Part number is compatible but what puzzles me is the radical redesign and as I remember the original was the same as the black version. Does VW/Skoda produce a version similar to the black version and can anybody give me the part number.

The only ones I've seen with top and bottom plastic end caps like in your pic, are cheap budget brand filters, mostly from China.

I've had two HTP engined fabias, the OE filters have always been as per the Mann Hummel design.

As you have seen the oil filter housing is made by Mann Hummel. So it makes sense to fit a Mann filter as OE.

I will do, but sure the original that was factory fitted new looked as the black version that I changed to previously. Thank you everybody for your help.

One final point the black plastic capped version seems made for the cap and clicks onto the spindle when fitting or removing

Will buy and fit a Mann HU710x to be sure.

Just been there and the Polish oem brand Filtron looks exactly like the black version, strange that the two versions are so different. I had the car from new and am sure the original fitted was the same as the black version as I would have queried when fitting the crossland black version also check link to Eurocarparts

What puzzles me is why two different manufacturers produce the same black design, and that the black design seems to "click" onto the stalk in the filter cap as if specifically designed to do so.

Here is yet another one do you think this design was ever use by VW/skoda? otherwise why would it exsist and other filter companies made a copy
