New tyres

Featured Replies

After 24k miles and nearly 6 year old I've finally got rid of the Bridgestones that came on the car from new.

Long long overdue, they did the job but very harsh and noisy. They were also starting to crack on the shoulder of the tread, front two were an advisory for tread depth anyway last month.

I suppose you can say I've had my money's worth😀

Their replacements, Kumho Ecsta HS51's and it's like driving a different car, quiet and smooth. Got the same brand on my MX-5 and very pleased with those.

Currently I have Kumho ECOWING ES31 tyres and their or okey but can't wait to get a better set of tyres once they are worn out. Definitely going to look for something that offers smoother and quieter ride.

What size wheels do you have?

16" fitted

Last December had my Octavias Continental ecocontact 5s replaced after 34000  with ecocontact 6s and it feel like a new car. Amazing what a set of new tyres can do to the car.

Yeah. Brand new, even Goodride, Austone, or most other Chinese stuff feel great compared with the 25000 mile old knackered premium brand tyres you take off.

The first, and only, rule of tyre replacement!

If it wasn't for ABS and TCS /EBD my premium Contis were absolutely ditch-finders with 30000 miles on. I barely survived the last winter commuting on them.

My Bridgestones spun like crazy on wet roads when wanting to get a quickish getaway.

I used to buy tyres on price, the cheaper the better 😄 now I'm wiser I still like cheap but ask a good deal of questions of tyres before parting with my money.

The spare tyre that came with the car is 15" - and some cars were supplied with 15" tyres so I knew fitting would not be a problem - I purchased a set of this size alloys (genuine almost new found on ebay from an accredited Skoda dealer) and fitted CrossClimate tyres. The ride, noise and fuel economy are better, and these tyres offer the added benefit of winter capacity when / if it snows (not often in Kent)
