Oil

Featured Replies

I'm new to this website, but I hope I've hit the jackpot and will be able to find out the answer to my question.

I'm driving a 2003 Octavia 1.4. I've only had it a short while, bought it with 29k on the clock , I've driven about 5000 miles. Anyway, so far I've had to top it up with oil twice since I got it (approx 1 ltr). When I contacted the garage, as its still under warranty, they/he said that I should allow a pint of oil for every 1000 miles! I thought this was a bit extreme, but I just wanted to check as my last car never needed a top up and being female, it hard to believe everything I'm told!

Mine 1.9Tdi has used to date about 1 litre per 5000 miles, however seems to have settled as of late. But the allowable oil usage is very high.

An oil consumption as high as 1 litre/1000 km is considered acceptable for the Octavia according to the Owner's Manual. The figure for the Superb and Fabia is 0.5 litres/1000 km. 1 litre/1000 km = 353 miles/pint!

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd bought a lemon. Good to know to keep a litre in the boot for emergencies!!
