Going for a Octavia VRS or a Golf GTi - Advice Please!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I am looking at either getting a brand-new (complete with 18s, dual-climate+armrest+rear elec windows, maxidot, rear parking sensors, auto mirror+rain sensor) Octavia VRs - I can get one UK for

alright m8

ive personally not driven the golf gti but i have had a weeks worth of driving of the octy2 vrs.

i honestly think its what suits u better. u said you only have 1 ben atm so the golf gti would be more than adequate. if your plannin gon have more kids then the octy would be the better choice.

they both have near enough the same performance and the difference is negligble.

unfortunately no one knows what the depreciation will be like as the car hasnt been out long enough for you to get an accurate figure but im guessing the golf gti will lose less value after 3 years.

also something to consider is badge snobbery... can u get over the fact that occasionally u may get the odd skoda joke?

the octy2 vrs does drive well..the torque for a petrol engine is suprising. theres plenty of torque any gear any speed. the only complaint i would have about it is there is a fair bit of body roll and the seats dont hold u in aswell as they should.

all in all its a very competent car. just depends on family size....

The hatch area of the octy is bigger than the golf, so will be good for transporting pushchairs and shopping without having to jam stuff in the back.

Passenger front air-bag can be disabled on teh other octavias so would expect same on vRS

I've got 2 kids and am thinking of changing my mk1 Octavia vRS for a *ahem* Golf of some description. Personally I'd go for the the mk5 GTI over the mk2 vRS...

The airbag can be disabled with a turn of the key in the glovebox.

Depends if you want what is essentially the same thing, but refer to pay another 2000 odd quid for it........

if we're talking mk2 octy vrs against mkIV golf GTI, the octy for sure.

if it were mk2 octy vs mkV GTI - not so sure.

I have had a mk2 vRS for nearly three months now and I have not regretted my choice.

However, if I didn't need the extra space of the octavia for the family, I would of picked the Golf, as it is nicer inside.

Though, if the high tax and space wasn't a problem I would of picked the Focus ST.

Both are good cars and as you can see from my sig I have an OctyII vRS and love it to bits so it would be unfair to give an unbiased opinion.

Sorry to sit on the fence here, but it really is up to you!. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Oh, can confirm that you can deactivate the passenger airbag with ignition key in glovebox as previously stated.

hi, again it's your choice and i hope you make the right one but here is something to consider, you see loads of the golf gti's about but the octavia vrs is still not as popular. If it was me then i'd go for the octy get a stage II chip on it and leave them behind. Have something different.

octy vrs mk1 with stage II superchip.

Oh, can confirm that you can deactivate the passenger airbag with ignition key in glovebox as previously stated.

Is this standard on the Octy II. I've got an Octy I vRS estate, and I'm sure it was something like
