Recommend wheel size

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondering has anyone tried 18" size wheel on Rapid Spaceback 2014 1.6 TDI before?  I know the recommended size from official figure is 215/40 R17 or 215/45 R16.   Just like to know will the R18 wheel fit, and what aspect ratio the tyre need to be?  Many thanks.

215/35R18. 7X18 ET46 5x100

Peviously reported on here to drop about 6 or 7 mpg I think which sounds likely as I lost 3 mpg going up to 17s.

Wheel-size.com also lists as possible

225/35R18 7.5X18 ET42. or

235/35R28.   8X18 ET35.

I don't know if anyone on here has tried them but these both give a bigger overall diameter than standard.

EDIT There is an old Rapid photo thread on here. I'm certain there's a spaceback on 225s with BBS and low springs in there.

Many thanks for the info, camelspyyder.  Any driving experience when you upgrade to R17?  Will the feeling of road feedback become stronger?  Better grips feeling?

My wheel is R16 at the moment, and thinking whether to upgrade to 17" or 18".

Very much tyre dependent. In 21540 17 I've driven grippy but harsh riding &  noisy Dunlop Sport Maxx, less grippy but still noisy Bridgestone RE050A, and smooth quiet and expensive Conti Premium contact 2.

There are lots to choose from at tyre reviews UK. Scroll down to Tyres by Size. Pick 215 40 17 and see all the reviews.
