extinction of performance diesels

Featured Replies

I’m only interested in facts like these. Wife’s Karoq petrol averaging 49mpg over the last 3,000 miles. No reason to buy the diesel with this economy. It was cheaper to buy new than a diesel £23,500 in January 2018.

  • I thinking anyone boasting about their environmental friendliness whilst buying a heavy truck with the aerodynamics of a brick is only convincing themselves, regardless of fuel type.

  • Err, £10 every 6000 miles or so. I think I can live with that. Pick the diesel or the petrol to suit your personal needs, and have the self confidence to be happy in your own choice rather than feelin

Nah, it's 'cos VW tarnished the image of all diesel engines considerably with their duplicity. They are still significantly better for the planet, due to lower CO2 emissions.

Every single thread you touch turns into a "I'm Shy and I get better fuel economy and your car is a hunk of ****e" thread.

Perhaps you should put him on your ignore list, then he would pretty much disappear from your view?

Who would have thought an empty lower power 2wd Karoq could get better fuel economy than a 300kg heavier, larger more powerful 4wd Kodiaq? Whilst there’s no denying that those impressive figures for a petrol engine, it’s pretty much irrelevant on a Kodiaq forum in a discussion about the 190bhp petrol and Diesel engines fitted to 4wd cars.

Unless you have 4 or 5 children the Karoq Sportline 4WD 2.0 TSi 190PS makes more sense than the 239PS diesel Vrs Kodiaq because the Karoq does 0-60mph in 7.3 seconds whereas the Kodiaq takes 7.0 seconds. An it's £12,000 cheaper to buy and offers cheaper road tax plus petrol is cheaper than diesel in the UK.:whew:

Just brilliant. So now you’re not just going with the “you bought the wrong engine” but adding “you bought the wrong car”. Genius.

That’s one opinion, but remember yours isn’t the only one, and isn’t always right 😉

Well as this thread is about the demise of performance diesels here is another example. I configured a Kodiaq Vrs to the spec I would want and it came to over £50,000. Now a gentleman on here who is very happy with his Vrs Kodiaq stated that he paid 62,000 Swiss Francs which is very similar to the US Dollar. In America for $56,300 you can buy a petrol Volvo XC90 Momentum with the T6 engine and 316PS. For similar money with the same T6 engine you can have a R-Design for $62,000 or the fully loaded Inscription for $62,600. So that we are clear $62,000 is roughly £49,600. Most would rather have a 316PS petrol XC90 rather than a diesel 239PS Kodiaq.:)

Have you now moved on from “you bought the wrong engine”, past “you bought the wrong car”, and now you’re going with “you chose the wrong country to live in / buy a car”?

It’s comedy genius. You’re certainly livening up the school holidays. We’ll miss you when term starts.

For what it’s worth, my wife’s Volvo XC40 cost almost exactly the same as our Kodiaq. XC90s are just a tiny bit more expensive.

...... but you’re talking like power is the only consideration but there are plenty folk that simply do not.

The demise of performance diesel is down to the environment and how emission standards have changed in recent years.  Likewise, the price comparison of petrol vs diesel purchases is down to governments / dealerships pushing the greener petrol engine over the diesel.

Nothing to do with what the car is putting out, what country you live in or what colour your skin is.

The self infatuation is entertaining though!

Well said. The demise of everything petro powered will be, hybrid then total electric once price and range and infrastructure is worked out. Its how the powers that be, force everyone's uptake with cars lasting years and individuals affordability and favouritism to overcome as well.

Wrong. It’s not a GTI where it has the Soundaktor under the windshield cowl. Has a speaker in the rear just like the SQ7 TDI.

would be keen to find out how to use VCDS to amplify the external speaker

i very much doubt the impending demise of Jurassic juice, as the petrochemical byproducts of fuel refinement are requirements in every aspect of modern life.

an abbreviated list: "plastics, soaps and detergents, solvents, drugs, fertilizers, pesticides, explosives, synthetic fibres and rubbers, paints, epoxy resins, and flooring and insulating materials"

It’s already at 100% from factory. Go buy a sound module if you want to sound even more like a yobbo.
