Reversing camera dynamic guide lines

Featured Replies

Ok I've only seen videos going back a few years so I suppose it's entirely possible things have changed but.

Why doesn't the Karoq reversing camera have dynamic  guide lines ( these move when you turn the wheel so will display where the car will go) very useful, my current car (Ford Kuga has these)

Yet the Kodiak, which is essentially a stretched Karoq does have this as standard equipment, you'd think that the camera would be the same.

minor but annoying.

My sons karoq factory fit reverse camera  has the guide lines same as my

Kodiaq.

You can get aftermarket low function cameras that do not have the guide lines, or the washer function.

Our 2018 Karoq SEL also has the standard factory reversing camera with dynamic (bending) guide lines (and boy does she need them).:tongueout:

Ahhh right, so the newer ones also have the bendy lines too?

Or do your vehicles also have auto parking/assist or something ?

Our SEL doesn't have park assist but standard front and rear parking sensors also if that helps.

Bought our 1.5 SEL Christmas 2018 and the parking lines do not bend. Other than front and rear sensors we have no other parking aids.

Ours was built late 2017 and registered January 2018 so perhaps Skoda started the cost cutting for the next Model year update. In the 30 months we have owned the car Skoda have increased the RRP from £25,000 to £27,500 with metallic paint without any noticeable improvement in vehicle spec.:whew:

This got me searching Google. I came across Professional Retrofits Limited who state:

"We are pleased to offer a rear view camera systems for Skoda Karoq. Rear view camera for Skoda Karoq is available only in Highline version.

Version HIGH comes with additional rear view camera module and it will provide dynamic, moving guidelines, and also it would also provide a two parking modes. Transverse parking, useful to park into a slot which is transverse to the driving direction on for reverse driving into a longer entry and parking mode 2, Longitudinal parking, useful for parking into a slot along the driving direction on a curb. Skoda Karoq camera will start working as soon as you put your car into reverse gear. It shows the area behind your car on your radio or radio navigation system display offering you a clear reversing image with easy-to-follow guidelines."

From what I can gather there is also a cheaper "Low" version that I assume is the one fitted to cars with fixed lines.

Highline also has the water jet to keep the lens clear which the Lowline model doesn't have.:rain:

Excellent, wonder which version the MY 2021 SE L will have.

High or lowline.

hmmmm, does anyone have a picture of the camera with the water washer and without, perhaps that is the easy way to determine it.

Edit.

Oh... retrofit, that's no good, looking at Factory OEM only, is there various models for that.

I've got a Karoq with the fixed guide lines and her Golf has fixed guidelines as well.   An electric van we have in work ( Nissan) has the bending guide lines. I find the fixed guide lines to be virtually no help at all in reversing and just look over my shoulder as always done, but the bendy guides in the van mean you can reverse using the camera (and mirrors to check).

It's a shame the Skoda(VW) have fitted an inferior product that can have no real cost saving when they could have made the car as good as a Nissan van......😬

I have an 18 SEL Karoq, and it too has fixed rear guidelines, but if you then go into drive the forward lines bend with the wheel.

Yes that's how the dynamic guides work, if youre stationary nothing shows but when you move the wheel and the car the lines show up and show the projected path of the car

I have an august 2019 SEL ......

Purely from memory (as I am not near the car) but in forward mode I have the bendy lines like this:

image.png.c256bc8c615dfe448514f22da2d0af3a.png

In reverse camera mode I have the fixed Green and red lines like the picture from the manual below:

image.thumb.png.b35a60ed5f9d5bcbe409f9720a1313e2.png

These dont bend at all to show the trajectory but I do have the camera washer system so confused a little as folk are saying "High" has the bendy lines in the camera and washer system but low has the fixed lines and no washer system.

Thanks

Paul

Thanks for that.

It does seem confusing that there seems to be several variants and no real way to determine who gets which one.

I do know that on my current car (Ford Kuga) those moving guide lines are really helpful, and I can see that fixed ones will make manoeuvring that bit harder.

Exactly the same as mine Paul, I too have the camera washer.

Hi.

The rear camera of the Skoda Karoq is different from that of the Kodiaq.
There are two types of Camera.

The High Line with Rear View Camera with Guidance Line version.
And the Low Line without Rear View Camera with Guidance Line.

Karoq MY18 / 19/20 equips the LowLine version.
Starting with the MY21 version, the High Line version, necessary for the Trailer Assist, will start to be installed.

The High Line version also has different types of views.

·Low Line Camera (Karoq):
1 single view mode
Static guide lines

· High Line Camera (Kodiaq)
Different points of view (trailer, battery, fisheye, ...)
Dynamic guide lines
It allows (with the other cameras) 360 ° view

Having checked our rear camera it does have the little washer jet so must be the Highline version but when I reversed into my parking space at work last night the lines are fixed and do not bend when the steering is turned. Sorry for any confusion with our SEL built late 2017.

Just the answer I was looking for, cause I want to code the trailer assist and therefore needed the highline camera. Happy to know it comes in MY 2021, my Karoq is due to production in week 37 👍

Just be careful there's options now on the configurator for the reversing camera, it's still unclear if the bog standard one has dynamic lines at all. There are another two options for trailers and the like.

I have a 2019 SEL with auto park assist, the reversing camera has the washer built in and it has static reversing lines.

As shown above, the infotainment screen shows dynamic lines when manoeuvring but since there is no 360 degree camera option, this is somewhat redundant because there is no reference point for scale and positional context.

For what it’s worth my Kodiaq with third-party camera had dynamic reversing lines, but the Karoq (2019 SEL) has static lines. I never trusted the dynamic lines for some reason but am happy with the static ones.

Hello again,

I just got my Karoq MY2021 - Style and I am sorry to say that it still has the static line camera (KA1), come on Skoda !!! , I have found a new camera and wire harness in Germany at 249 €  , so I will replace it and get Trailerassist :-) and dynamic lines.

Can you post a link for the camera and wire harness?
