Octavia Estate 245 Performance Upgrades

Featured Replies

Hi Guys/Girls,

I am new here and this is my first post. I am taking delivery of my 2018 VRS estate very soon and I would like some advice on what are the best and most affordable performance upgrades I could do.

So I have been looking at the Forge carbon intake, revo remap and a res delete. Dont think I will change the exterior but I would like to improve the handling.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

Thank you for the help in advance.

Depends what you want. Forge intake is super expensive and no real performance gain. The intake hose and elbow will do though. Resonator removal also just for noise. Remap obvs isn't ha.

Best mods I've done to mine are the wheels, springs and rear anti roll bar. Remap (JB4) is good but I could've lived without it.

I would do the remap, turbo intake pipe. Wouldn't bother with the resonator removal as people report the car drones at motorway speeds.

If you want to do some handling mods try a rear sway bar, front strut brace, front offset poly bushes. These can all be done pretty cheaply. You could also go lowering springs but that's mostly for looks. Oh and decent tyres go without saying... If your budget is tight try Falken Fk510s, if not Michelin PS4S are the bomb

Depends on when in 2018 yours was produced, MY18 doesn't have a GPF MY19 does & up does alter what you can expect from a remap which tuning companies have a map available.

Aside from that, what do want to upgrade, power or handling

Thanks for the advice bud. What intake would you suggest a remake?

I had an Airtec cone air filter which replaced the OEM airbox/air filter on my 336bhp Octavia Vrs245 and it sounded great and the best (fitted cost) £300 I spent on the car.:hi:

So I would like to do both to be honest, with more power I would need the car to handle the speeds nicely. That's why I can't find a decent remap, mine has the GPF.

I meant to say remair. Bloody spell check.

Would you consider a muffler delete then?

Personally I wouldn't. I would always opt for an aftermarket exhaust system over a resonator delete. You get a nicer exhaust note without the drone at motorway speeds.

There are so many. As long as you have a bigger elbow and pipe then they're all gonna be the same performance wise. Depends what look you prefer and the more open the cone the more noise (but will be detrimental to performance with intake heat). I've gone for the mst as I want it to have a bit more noise but not kill the performance and also don't like foam filters, only cotton.

Thank you has anyone head of quantum remaps? If so are they decent?

I have a friend who deals with quantum in Nottinghamshire and he always gets good reviews. As a company that is as much as I know. Most stick to the main VAG tuners that are tried and tested.

Thanks for the info dude. Any suggestions on VAG. Tuners?

APR, Racing Line, Revo, Superchips, Celtic Tuning, Big Fish. R Tech.

There are some more but these are who most go to.

DLP in Sheffield not too far from you and decent reputation from the Superb Mk3 forum with good gains. I always use Ben at AmD in Grays, Essex but you may not want to travel that far. Also VRS in Northampton have many fans and plenty of You Tube videos with 600BHP Golf R's.

This does look a good alternative to the Racingline one - I find the racingline stuff massively overpriced just for the label too. You'll get a bit more noise too with this one over the racingline as it's partially open

*takes notes*

Does lower dogbone mount apply to RS245? Just fitted the 034 one to my RS230 and wow, what an improvement! Have given it full beans in wet, dry, TC on & off, no axle tramp. Also adds a very very mild vibration on moving off and/or moderate throttle, like you can feel the engine working now. Even better than I thought it'd be 👍

Just be aware if you go with Mountune, they've just engaged KPMG to try and find a buyer - not entirely clear what their fate will be if nobody does buy it out, but worth going in with eyes open before spanking £400 on an intake.

Their accounts are showing as nearly a year overdue on Companies House along with the founders resignation in July.

Doesn't look like a great situation at the moment, which is a shame because they built a great reputation with their warrantied Ford tuning.

I used Celtic for my vRS 2015 remap. They did a great job, love the car even more since then!

Regards tuners, the big boys Revo, APR & now Ben Wardly is there i'd add Raceline in that company BUT & yeah its a big but, make sure they have a GPF remap or you'll be down on power & up on future maintenance.

R600 is a very good CAI system, look for a 2nd hand one though as they're stupid money brand new. I've got the muffler delete on (just cos it came with it 2nd hand) & it adds a nice raspy growl through 2-1/2 to 3-1/4k rev range.

Again a small 'be aware' post from me - regarding tuners, if you (or anyone else reading) had longer term plans to go Stage 2, APR UK have been pushed by APR USA and will no longer offer Stage 2 mapping to new customers after early September.

Copy of announcement from their facebook page:

Stage 2 announcement UK
It is with sadness that we have to announce that APR has discontinued Stage2 , this includes both downpipes and software, this does exclude the 3.0t stage 2 where a pulley upgrade is needed, that product line will still be available.
From September 7th Stage 2 software will no longer be available from APR, existing Stage 2 customers will continue to have access to their Stage 2 licence, but no new Stage 2 upgrades will be permitted.
This is a decision taken at APR HQ in the USA and is not something that APR UK or any UK dealer has any influence over.
We understand that this is disappointing for all fans of APR and is equally disappointing for us, I have personally been involved in many management discussions with Apr and global dealers for a solution without success, we would encourage anyone who is considering upgrading to Stage 2 to contact their local dealer and upgrade before the deadline.
Regards Mark Ash MD (APR UK)
