Brodit Clip advice.

Featured Replies

Hi.

Can anyone tell me if I get a Brodit Clip to attach to the A pillar, will it accept a Galaxy S20+ 5G without any issues such as blocking the air vent, interfering/stopping the use of any stalk controls.

What I actually intend to do is mount a Baseus wireless charger on it using the Garmin sat nav ball mount, the charger is really good and fast but the wretched mount they give you is 💩, as it vibrates badly and eventually falls off! 🤦‍♂️

So I need something up to the job.

The above device is available from Aliexpress for £21, buy in the UK it £42!

Don't know if I'd want to be attaching anything like that to the A-pillar given it contains an airbag, unless I've misunderstood your intentions?

Regardless, if you want a GREAT mount system look up RAM mounts. They make a huge range of modular components that allow you to build the exact system you want. I bought a pre-built phone mount off them a couple of years ago because everything else I tried would come flying off the glass in Aussie summers - no problems with the RAM. It's a bloody good product, well worth the coin 👍

Yeah I too would advise against sticking anything to your A pillar. Curtain airbag goes off and you'll have a phone potentially hurtling towards you.

Would you not be able to fashion something possibly on top of the dashboard?

Brodit clips have been around for ages, I haven't got side airbags fitted as far as I know, I never specified them when I ordered it.

I wont stick anything on the dashboard as it leaves a nasty ring on it, which doesn't go away, also the power cord drapes over the sat nav screen, I can't use any vent ones as the device blocks either the cruise control/indicator or wiper stalks.

I have the one on the vent, works just fine 👌

I assumed all Octavia 3 had them.  Look at top of A pillar and look for an airbab badge

No airbag markings on A pillar on mine.

Nor does mine, but I know they're there because I had the left trim off when I was routing my dashcam cable and there's a curtain airbag a significant length of it

Just watch Euro Ncap side pole crash test, A pillar explodes as curtain air bag is deployed. I wouldn't be clipping objects to it.. https://www.euroncap.com/en/results/skoda/octavia/39136

I haven't got them. Nothing there.

There might not be a symbol or 'airbag' written on the A pillar, but unless yours was a Friday afternoon car, you will have curtain airbags fitted within the depths of your A pillar.

Only thing to do would be to pull a trim piece off and have a look for yourself.

IIRC its the rear airbags along with the crew protection which was the optional extra.

My manual says the marking is on the B pillar but the diagram shows the airbag it refers to stretching up the A pillar, along the roof line above the B pillar, then down the C pillar a bit.

Well I know that people on here have been advocates of the Brodit clip for years, I've had them on my car upto the last blue RS, not the last car which was grey.

Never been any problems with them in the past, if there were major safety issues then they wouldn't be able to sell them. Also Brodit are a Swedish company and the Swedish are renowned for their safety and not taking risks and in car safety is taken extremely seriously.

I can't install a vent clip as I have too many stalks on the steering column, I don't like anything across the infotainment system screen either it's a bit like the prats on the road who install a sat nav on the windscreen directly above the dashboard binnacle/steering wheel directly in the line of vision. It's an ABSOLUTE NO NO. 😡

True, but IF (which I very much doubt) you don't have airbags in your A pillar then you almost certainly have the only Octavia III in the world without them as they were a standard fitment and are one of the reasons for the 4 star NCAP rating.
