What would you change on your S3?

I’ve had mine about three years now, and have changed more than a few things in the meantime.

Of the top off my head, in no particular order:

- Added a stainless steel lip to the boot.

@kriva Hi There,

New to Skoda ownership, but really keen to carry out this modification.  Can you advise where you obtained the part and if you have any photos?

Thank you in advance.

Superskoda sell a range of them:

I ordered one but there was some issue with the delivery and it never arrived. Eventually, after about 4 or 5 emails chasing them and threatening to go via paypal to complain, they refunded me. Numerous others on here have ordered from them and it's been absolutely fine. it just seems they have absolutely zero after sales service and the language barrier probably doesn't help

Thanks @budster ..... I will take a look.

Was also wondering where to source the chrome strip that goes across the boot grab lip such as you see on the more powerful 2020 models:-

New ŠKODA Superb Estate 2.0 TSI (272 PS) Sport Line Plus 4X4 5 ...

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks again.

I ordered mine from Superskoda indeed. I’ve placed a few orders with them, and their after sales service can be quite spotty as mentioned above. I have a feeling that most of it comes down to the language barrier and not to unwillingness to help.

I’ve attached a picture of what mine looks like.0D366549-A317-4243-B613-4574187465AB.thumb.jpeg.469d12cf0d9490f34008b661a843b960.jpeg

Assuming that is the facelift model? It looks like they have changed the actual light clusters to fit that strip, but it's hard to tell from the picture. Looks good though.

Might be worth asking Superskoda if they have anything like that.

After I gave up on the boot lid protector, I got a boot liner with a flap that folds out instead from here:

https://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4_tab.php/boot-liners-mats/carbox_form_s_boot_liner_black_for_skoda_superb_saloon_201841000/Qx%40w%2C6M41V_VndbVhpeetSUTPXO%40V5IS6C2V2r7KoZ4Nn2~cAD7rDnnG{PqdgWgwVKtXIjgkpkdHAmwaU

Quite pricey but it fitted perfectly and seems really sturdy. Being some sort of plastic it doesn't have any rubber smell.

For me the only change I'd like is a torque convertor instead of the electro-mechanical DSG clutches.

I can make a smooth take off with the DSG setup, but it requires thought.

If it is a quick re-start (say I've missed the amber light and have to move off pronto on green) then it's always a jerk as the drive engages.

I also find it tricky to reverse parallel park and straighten up without jerky forward and back moves.

I know that is to do with the auto-brake system being on, but it's difficult to remember that is the cause while parking, and switch it off.

A torque converter is completely smooth in all the above scenarios and just gives a better driving experience.

I also felt less guilt sitting at lights with the car in drive than I do with the DSG.

Despite what others have posted on here previously, I just can't shake the notion that the DSG clutch is "dragging" whist stopped in drive and will suffer premature wear as a result.

You can change the Auto Hold setting with VCDS to have an « early brake release », when you start. I´ve done this mod and it makes the car much smoother... 😉

Something I would change is the DSG6 mapping. It sometimes shifts down upon smooth throttle increase, where you would normally expect it to remain on the same gear and take benefit from engine torque.

Simple example: roundabout exit at gentle rpm in D3, you make a smooth acceleration and the gearbox unexpectedly shifts a gear down in D2 and kicks you. Not very comfortable...

Doesn't drive mode change the dsg behaviour in ways like that..?  I could be wrong though as I have a manual so don't really know, just what I thought.

The drive mode actually modifies the DSG mapping, that's true. But the DSG6 mapping in Normal mode has been slightly tuned to comply with Euro6 norm. But the result is not very satisfying in real life. According to the Sales manager of my local dealer, this has been slightly improved when DSG7 replaced DSG6.

Chatting to @penguin17 recently who owned a Superb 280 with the older DSG6 and a couple of months ago swapped for a Golf R estate with the newer DSG7 box and he confirmed what I suspected that the new box is far superior to the 2015 version in not just the speed it changes but it's programming and my 2019 has never changed down unexpectedly only when I wanted extra performance. It will even go uphill at 42mph in 7th gear at 1,200rpm without changing down to 6th gear.

In the Octavia, you can change the wipers from automatic to manual in the Car menu of the infotainment. You then use the sensitivity rocker switch to adjust the frequency of the manual wipes. I’d suspect the Superb is the same.

I've had my Superb for just over 3 yrs now. I don't think the auto wipers are that great and I was always a little grumpy that intermittent wipers were not an option. After reading your post I did as suggested and this morning I was able to use them for the first time 😄.

I know, I know, RTFM. Thank you 👍

This sounds intriguing. The auto hold and EPB are great but I've had to learn to do a quick tap of the throttle to disengage the EPB, momentary pause, then on the throttle properly, otherwise there is always a lurch forward as the brake comes off.

Does this early brake release fix that? I can't find anything about it when I search.

I'm going to try this now

Exactly that! ;)

OK, thanks. Did it work?

I have ODBeleven rather than VCDS. Anyone know idea if it will work with that?

I done it using OBDeleven. Seems improved but haven't driven much today

I would change the cruise control stalk to one that is more logical like other manufacturers use.

The other one that really gets me is the headlight height control is no longer a wheel on the dash.  I have to adjust mine a couple of times a day and the control is now too deep into the control screen menu and I have to take my eyes off the road to change it.

The sound proofing could be a little better.

My SE Tech doesn't have ambient lighting  which I liked on my previous Superb.

The Sat Nav is far more complicated than its needs to be.

I don't like the automatic hold / parking brake on my manual car. It can be tricky to use on hills (particularly on my steep driveway after a cold start ) and its easy to roll backwards. Also you only have to accidentally nudge the clutch pedal and it releases, even in neutral. This may be a fault so I need to have the dealer look at it. Because of these quirks I leave auto hold deactivated. No doubt it works better on an DSG car.

Remove ALL black glossy plastic surfaces. They really must be stupid to use that where they did.

Scratch magnet

Grease magnet
