ALTERNATOR HELP

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

do you know if the 1.9TDI fabia Mk1 will have the same alternator for the same year fabia VRS (2005), I know the BHP is different but was curious if a TDI alternator would fit straight into my VRS- thanks in advance! :-)

I expect it would fit and work fine if there's nothing else broken in the charging system.

Why do you think you need to replace your present one? There's a really common fault on mk1 Fabias which can look like an alternator problem, but isn't; are you aware of that?

Does your battery symbol light up when you turn the ignition key to the point where all the warning lights self-test?

Hi mate thanks for the reply!

ive read the thread on the previous problems with alternator related issue however my pulley has detached from my alternator so it defo needs replacing 😞  - looks like the TDI has the same alternator so I managed to pick up one that’s barely been used online for £30! Instead of forking out for a new one! Looks like my timing belt needs replacing as it’s been chewed up even though I only replaced it 6 months ago

You mean the auxiliary belt of course.

Yes I mean the aux belt 😳 the point is my alternator is *******ed lol

You can just replace the pulley if your alternator is intact.

Had the same thing happen to me, the garage replaced the whole alternator which was the original 2006.

Yeah i've seen you can replace the pulley but i just got a 3 month old alternator from a 1.9 TDI estate MK1, turns out there the same part so i picked that up for £35, replacement belt for £21 and fitting was just over 50. so £110 all in to get a new alternator, belt and labour which im happy about!

jamie- as you are in MK ,check out the great guys on UNIT 18 who reside at https://www.unit18.co.uk/
