Aftermarket radio with the steering wheel commands?

Featured Replies

Hey! I was wondering if there is any way to connect an aftermarket radio to the volume buttons on the steering wheel? Is there some kind of adapter, or what radio does come with the module? I would love to use the steering wheel commands :)) (I have an old-ish jvc player fyi.)

If your headunit supports remotes - then you'll likely need a harness from the likes of connects2 or something.

I had some trouble with mine as due to it being a later model - I had to get a newer harness installed by a professional since they didn't have a version specific for my vehicle.

And if I get a new headunit, or are there navis with the module, so simply plug'n'play?

Unless it has built in canbus support you're going to need a wiring loom to allow it to work with your steering controls.

All of the dedicated VAG ones have, in fact all of them have, all the dedicated ones have is a correct fascia shape & the VAGcanbus protocole programmed in, you can find them all in the settings if you get the factory code.

They also have a function to learn steering wheel controls, the dirt cheap £80 unit I fittedd to the Yeti worked out of the bow with the wheel buttons although the forward and back arrows for music tracks etc which are left & right pointing on the steering wheel do the opposite of what my logic says they should be.

A first world problem.
