Meteor grey vRS - what colour alloys?

Featured Replies

Today I've put down a deposit on an '18 plate 245ps hatch in meteor grey (woo!) but as it's hasn't been prep'ed by the dealer yet, the alloys (19" Xtreme) are pretty scuffed.

Obviously the dealer will be refurbishing all four but as they are diamond cut, I'm very tempted to have them done in a flat colour to avoid any future diamond cut issues. I'd probably go anthracite so they still contrast with the car, has anyone else already done this?

I know these are pre-fl but I think pure black is too much: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/303228-got-my-new-meteor-grey-vrs-today/

It looks @shrops_paul like might have done something similar, hard to tell from these pics: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/330110-calling-all-meteor-grey-vrs-owners/?do=findComment&comment=3975602

Any thoughts would be great :)

Woah. Thats a blast from the past apearing in my mailbox. My wheels were just the standard colour form the factory. Alas after 3 years the car was returned to the lease company so I dont have it any more. After a long & happy period I have stepped away from Skoda ownership.

My RS230 is a similar colour...

...and it too has scuffed rims from previous owner (not sure how with all the beeping that goes on!), thankfully fairly mild though. I find the silver-on-black Xtremes a little loud, but not sure if blacking them out completely would look good or not with such light paint work. The Cyclones on my GTi6 had scuffs too, which I hid with a healthy coating of black plastidip that came out looking quite good...but the car is also black.

That said, RS230 has the black pack as standard and I plan on following @SkodaNZ with the fitting of blacked out badging, so once that's done some black rims might look quite fitting. Hmmm.

I agree that pure black could be too much, just wary of keeping them diamond cut given I can take the money the dealer would be paying to refurbish them. Even if they don't get scuffed I expect stone chips will cause issues.

The black/body colour badges look very smart though, very tempting :)

Why not go a similar colour to rado grey as found on the mk3 Focus ST. I always liked that colour and it doesnt show up brake dust as much.

Yep, I was considering debadging the back somewhat as I find it a bit busy, but I think the blacked out badges is a much better alternative! Wouldn't mind knowing how he achieved the smoked tail lights either, because I've looked for such a part and can't find them anywhere!

Good move. What did you get instead?

I have two Xtreme 19" alloys with some curb damage. For a little more than getting those two fixed back to factory state, I could get all 4 of mine powder coated.

I'm not a fan of black wheels if I'm being honest. The wheels with the diamond cut are fine, but as said -  pain to get repaired if further damaged.

I'm currently debating having mine all powder coated in Anthracite - my car is in Corrida Red. I do know Black & Red does work, but really just not keen on completely black wheels.

Spray tint. I did my Roomster rears because they were soo red. You have to make sure you do the same amount of passes each side.

Debadge it much cleaner and easier to clean .

I actually think dark bronze wheels would look really good against meteor grey...

Black alloys look nice, but they look awful after only a few journeys after cleaning them. I've got black wheels on my motorbike and they look great, but being a little more exposed to the elements, they capture the gunk that bit easier and you can see it clearly on them.

I'm a fan of the anthracite on my gemini wheels, they don't look filthy even after a couple of weeks and I feel the brake dust 'blends' in with their colour.

It all depends how OCD you are about cleaning your car. I've found it to have been a worthwhile exercise when I did my spring clean of my car to take each wheel off and then polish and wax them. All in the bolt holes, in the centre cap recess and everywhere else. Does make a big difference when cleaning as it only takes a pressure wash to lift the vast majority of the dust off.

Especially if yours are going to be getting refurbed anyway, it be worth seeing if the place where they're getting done does the ceramic coating. Having that would not only protect the new finish, but make them easier to clean as well.

The pictures above certainly help, black looked better than I expected!

Anthracite is still probably winning - I'll have to see what the dealer will do for me :)

My vote ANTHRACITE.

But i have always liked it, had them on my Anthracite Roomy. 😉👍

I used to be queasy about black wheels but it’s pretty standard and works so well against the black pack details making the car look harmonised. I don’t think you can go wrong with straight lack on this colour as it’s a lovely contrast. Worse case scenario is you try and then change colour again. I think you will like the black once you see it in the flesh.

Watching with interest as I'm picking up a meteor grey estate on Tuesday and am looking to change the colour.

I'm not a fan of black either but not sure about anthracite just yet, maybe it's a bit too light with the black pack. Decisions, decisions.

Another black against grey, this time Moonstone Grey on my Passat:

I think black wheels depend on the design as to whether they work or not...

Black ties in nicely with this car. 👌
