Michelin or Continental opinions?

Featured Replies

I need to order a set of winters, and wondered if anyone had any experience or opinions, on either the Michelin pilot alpin 5/6 or Continental Contiwintercontact ts 850p Before I order some.

Both are excellent for winter use or even all year depending where they are being used.  ? What vehicle are they going on and in which country?

Fitting them to a 4x4 Superb.
living in N.I, but like to be prepared just incase we get any snow, as I have to drive up the side of a mountain to get home.

If you are going to use them all year round then a set of All Season tyres with the TPMSS  ( three Peak Mountain Snowflake Symbol ) could be good.

Thanks. I will be running these as dedicated winters on 18’s and swapping back to the factory 19’s during summer months.

Your choice may be dictated by size required.

I would go for the newest design (Alpin 6 or TS860 etc), but for some sizes have to have the older lower numbered design, so you might want to avoid the older design.

Last winter I got Goodyear Ultragrip 9+  (which came out summer 2019) and have been very pleased with these.  I ordered them from Germany as it was cheaper (even with the shipping),

Also heard good things about Vredestein Wintrac Pro if you need another alternative for your required size.

Thank you. The standard 18” size I think is 235/45/18, and a lot more available than the 19” rims that came on the car, hence the second set and going full winter rather than all season. Yes, I have a Dunlop winter on my wife’s car and it has been a fantastic tyre. I was going on tyre version based on testing figures, and some of the older tyres scored quite a bit higher than their newer counterpart. Probably wouldn’t be far wrong with most of the “better” manufacturers.

Have a set of 850Ps ready to go on rims in the next few weeks.  Will report back in 8 months or so.

Just need these:

Brilliant. I had confirmation my Zeniths are on their way to me for delivery tomorrow, so will await your report.
they seem to be a brilliant all round winter, so my hopes are high. 👍🏻

  • 1 month later...

They’ve been on the car for 4 weeks now, done ~1,400 miles on them and happy to report all well.  Proof of the pud:

They are no noisier than the factory fitted Bridgestones, even at top end(ish) of motorway speeds, and feel is no difference in heavy rain.   It’s been cold enough here to suit the winters but have driven them in temps up to +13.5c, didn’t feel any different.  Haven’t had frost, ice or snow yet but it’s coming, I can feel it in my bones.   r020.gif
