Driving in Europe with standard LED lights

Featured Replies

Hi has anybody had any experience or knowledge regards adjustment or the fitting of eurolites beam deflectors for the standard Kamiq LED headlights.

All the manual says is you can change the full LED lights via the car settings but nothing on the standard LED’s. Nothing listed on the eurolites figment either.

On a second point has anybody had a aftermarket tow bar fitted, I seem to be struggling to find a supplier.

many thanks.

Hi Mike did you ever resolve this re the eurolites?  On a lot of web sites it says no deflectors needed on led lights, but I've never driven in France without them

Very late to the party here, but unless you plan on doing night driving in France I wouldn't bother with light adjustment.

Be interesting to hear from the OP about tow bars and whether he was successful.

The car have option in the lights options of the car that you can change to left driving or right driving. So I think this will change the whole projectors for eu or uk standart.

I had an after market towbar fitted by the supplying dealer.  Its pretty basic though removable.  It doesn't turn of the reversing sensors or anything so have to change the reversing settings in the menu otherwise the car keeps hitting the emergency breaking.  It's manufactured by Westfalia

Yep, I've just discovered that I have that option on my SE L so the OP should have it as well. I hadn't noticed it in the settings, but I've just been out and a message flashed up on the dash that my lights were set for right hand driving. Upon checking they weren't, but at least I now know the facility is there.

Must get out more !!!

Not sure what a tale of a towbar that hasn’t been fitted/coded correctly has to do with driving in Europe with LED lights.

Perhaps if you read the whole original post

I have recently bought a Kamiq SEL executive . How do I adjust the headlights (standard LED?) for Europe? There is no left hand/right hand adjustment in the lights menu. If I get stick-on adjusters, where do they go?

Or are they aftermarket LED headlights.

As far as I know the lights were fitted as originals; however I don't get the option you show. Clicking on the link you provided goes to an empty screen that doesn't show anything except a revolving clockface 😞

Hi, only with AFS Crystal  Lightining i have this.

The link should open to a 2020 Kamiq handbook

Selected from here

https://www.skoda.co.uk/apps/manuals/models

That just gives me the on-line manual, which I already have.

Now here’s a stupid question, in the UK are we regarded as right-hand traffic?

I don't get the option to select right or left hand drive at all. that option doesn't seem to be selectable.

Then you have the basic LED headlights without auto-leveling. There should be an adjuster wheel next to the light switch. This is normally used to point the headlights down when you load your car heavily.

I suppose you could use that to point them downwards in order to avoid blinding others, however that will compromise your visibility.

extra info

Is there anything in the manual on driving abroad?   I remember with my 2020 SEL there was the hardcopy manual which came with the car and also an electronic downloadeable version which covered topics not in the hardcopy one.

I though on the newer models it worked off the satnav GPS and changed them automatically???

Even with the matrix headlights you have to change the lights via the settings. I would suggest this is a myth, unless it has come in very recently.

Thanks to all the replies. At least I don't have to drive abroad at the moment, but this is looking very like a UK only car! Brexit? The alternative of stick on patches; anyone have experience of those with a recent Kamiq?

I've just commented on the Scala forum as I've been considering a Scala or even possibly a Kamiq (boot size might be an issue for me) but looking at recent manuals for Scala and Kamiq I think the new 2024 models do not need Eurolites etc stuck on the headlights:-

https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models - Look at "Lighting, windscreen wiper and washers"/ "exterior Lighting" / "settings".

So no stickers needed as far as I can see in the 2024 manual.  "With adaptive functions engage travel mode feature. Without adaptive functions. The headlights meet the requirements for driving in countries with opposite traffic direction. No headlight adjustment is necessary. "

I looked at the 2021 manual there is no mention re non adaptive headlights - so no idea.

Have done a but of digging around other forums and apparently there are some LED lighting on cars that need no adjustment for country.

If you drive up to a flat surface, like a garage door,  put main beam on and reverse away a bit, note where the beam is, if you then dip the lights does the beam move to the left?

If it does you need to find how to adjust

If not the system is "flat" and requires no intervention. Because it isn't sided it just light up in front. they are bright enough to not need the "up" bit of left and right sided lighting.

Allegedly?

I need to say that my Kamiq is a 2023 model. I guess if it doesn't need adjusting... we usually park facing away from the garage, but I could do some experimenting with the car facing the doors. Thanks for responses so far.

Just spotted this thread.   If it helps -  in my experience, driving a lot in France, I need the Eurolites stickers on my Kamiq that clearly does not have any on-board tech to address the issue.  (The headlights appear to be perfectly adjusted and have never attracted any adverse attention in the UK).  The one time I forgot to get any Eurolites, on a long autoroute trip at night it was embarrassingly apparent that I was seriously ****ing off and inconveniencing every truck driver travelling in the opposite direction.  Must be something about the viewing height from a truck cab and the light-spread of a UK spec car.   Virtually without exception every one of them that came past - literally hundreds over the course of the journey - was flashing me and blaring their horns. Winding down the height adjuster made no difference.  I was mortified, but had to push on to get to my rendez-vous. Lesson learned - I never venture out on French roads without stickers.
