I am looking to buy a 2018 model which have the Amundsen Navigation but no digital cockpit (Not sure if thats needed)

No it can't be retrofitted.

Needs to be SWAP activated which can only b done by HQ.

By entering an FeC (Feature enablement code), VW techs can provision your vehicle's infotainment system with new features.

Is the idea that they are going the tesla route and you can order it on newer models after purchase?

It can done, I follow a Facebook group for coding and retrofitting and I can confirm the 1st Retrofit of PAcc has been just carried out.

Very misleading as that was done on a Kamiq, which has much newer hardware like a newer multi function camera (gen2) and MIB3!!!

The pre-FL Superb does not have this hardware.

pACC is an option for the FL Superb because it has the necessary hardware like the Kamiq.

Oh well, cant have everything. Lane assist + ACC is pretty decent enough.
