How too

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Id like to start doing some work on the wife’s car (Skoda Superb mk2 estate). It could do with the following and it would be great if there were any guides floating around that would guid me in the right direction.

*Full major service

*Replace thermostat (I’ve also been reading about the DSG thermostat, is this a diy job)

*DSG oil change

Ive got VAGCOM and a wide verity of tools but nothing I would call specialist.

Work I’ve already done to the car includes front and rear discs and pads, front ARB links, window regulator.

Cheers,

Chris.

When you say major service, what do you have in mind?

DSG fluid change requires a special tool. Cambelt also requires special tools to set the timing.

I'd suggest you sign up on https://erwin.skoda-auto.cz/erwin/showHome.do

and buy a 24 hour sub to download the service and repair manuals before you get stuck in.

Air, pollen, fuel & oil filters, oil change including DSG, water and DSG thermostats, coolant and oil change. Anything else you can think of?

Im up for changing the belts but maybe next year.

Thanks for the link.

the only tools you need for the DSG oil change that are not generic are-

1 filling tube to get the new oil in though some people have filled through the filter housing without it.

2 vcds or similar to check the oil temp. again some people have estimated.

the cost of a pressurised oil filler will be recouped by not paying the dealers price and you have it for future changes.

i was going to buy the cam belt timing tool but my mechanic insisted he didnt need it and he was right. ( I dont know his method sorry)

I have seen a diy method that is interesting where you cut the old belt in half along its length, remove the outer half and slide the new one half on. then cut the second half of the old and fully engage the new.

Thanks for the link to that amazing guide. It’s such a shame that proper car forums are dying out as you just can’t get this kind of guide anywhere else.

Thankfully I’ve already got VCDS, it’s about as useful as a steering wheel for MY daily (Audi C5 RS6). 🤪 I’m also happy to invest in a good pump as I’d like to get into changing the GB oil in that car annually and at £400 a pop it’ll soon pay for itself.

Another job on the list now is replacing the air quality sensor. I took her in for a air con Regas, as the wife said it hasn’t been great, and after charging it Kiwk-Fit said that it wasn’t any better (they didn’t charge me). They said that it holds pressure but doesn’t get very cold and that it’s likely an electrical fault but their technician isn’t in for the next two weeks. So I plug in the VAGCOM and got this. It might not be the cause of the issue but it’s still a job that needs doing.
