Problems engaging first

Featured Replies

Frequently can't engage first gear in the Octy. Gear lever will go so far and then get stuck. When i release the clutch to the bitting point, it then slips into gear with no problem:confused:

Does anyone know what could cause this, the car is only 3 yrs old with 37k miles.

I have almost exactly the same problem on a car just under 3 years old with 40ish k miles on it.

It's also a 110TDi and is totally standard.

Have you had it diagnosed?? Mine is in getting warranty work done today (warranty runs out 26th May) and i have highlighted it to them. Interesting to see if they fix it.

Mine does this too. I find that the gear lever sticks half way, and even a few attempts will not persuade it. The only way around it is to select second, then go into first. It only happens occassionally. Mine has 27k miles on it. My old RS did the same.

probable clutch drag , i.e. gearbox still rotating when clutch depressed fully , only real solution is to fit a new clutch kit . or there could be a fault with the synchro in the gearbox or cable adjustment but more likely the clutch

I got told your mad sir there is nothing wrong and no they are all like that by the dealer. Second skoda dealer just topped up the oil which helped ofr a tiny bit but not much (Think they added quarter of a litre) but i have no idea how much is in the gearbox.

Most ****ed off as i now get a change from 2nd to 3rd won't work if done under any serious sort of acceleration and the gear pops out and then i have to depress clutch and put it into third. First still is notchy and sometimes wont engage, and reverse occasionally sticks.

I am taking it into the dealer to look at again (different dealer this time) and on speaking to somebody they said sounds like a synchro issue.
