Crunching into second gear

Featured Replies

I have had a second hand gearbox fitted which seems fine, except if I change up quickly from 1st to second. I get a crunch as if I have not depressed the clutch enough. If I change gear slowly or at slower speads it does not do it.

The clutch is almost new, so could it be a case of adjusting the clutch or selector, or does it sound like a fault on the box?

It is going back in tomorrow but would appreciate any ideas beforehand.

Cheers

Mark

If its just second id say its a syncro issue, would try changing the oil first.

They put new oil in with the box.

Can the scyncro be fixed, or is it a new box again?

Not really sure what the syncro is. The gearbox has only done 19K, or so they say.

Syncros can be replaced but requires the box to be removed and stripped.

The syncro is a ring that sits inbetween two gears and helps with the meshing of them at speed.
