Dimensions of reverse camera

Featured Replies

Well...I bought a reverse camera from aliexpress that was saying suitable for mk3 a7 and I did not measure before order.

I tried to start the procedure today and I saw that my car's length of the trunk button is about 9 cm and 11cm the camera I bought.

What is going on? Are there different trunk buttons between mk3 octavia models?

Yes, there are different trunk buttons - smaller one was used when there was no factory camera option available at all.

I saw some models 92mm but there also 2 styles of connector.

Also they have 2 big screws

I suppose i must check my button first from inside

Two options really, modify the opening or buy the correct size camera unfortunately, there's a lot less functionality on the correct sized camera.

Best ask the guru really @SashaGrace

I took some photos of my button.

It seems that camera from octavia a5, polo, audi A1 etc should be ok.

My button has one big latch from one side to keep it steady

This camera from aliexpress also has 2 small latches and not only the two big screws like other cameras

I think ls8012  model is the correct one.

Sashagray please help me if you can...

I think it's important someone points this out...

(Note- factory camera on a RHD model)

That little nobbly bit is a washer jet that activates in tandem with the rear windscreen washer. My camera inevitably becomes all crudded up and fairly useless after driving in wet weather, such that it's my opinion any cheap knock-off without the washer jet is going to be of limited use.

You have the correct size there but you want a clipped one, not a bolted one.

I didn't find anywhere a clipped one.

Only this style with bolts for 92mm

But if you see there are 2 small plastic latches left and right. Won't be enough you think?

I would disagree with this as it’s a bit like just hitting your car with a power washer. Yes the loose large stuff will come but and road traffic film will need to be manually removed by touching. Not unless you’ve got some serious chemical assistance in your washer bottle.

I have the “cheap knock off”’as you put it and I haven’t cleaned it or the car since last Sunday. Here’s the pic after my commute this morning on torrential rain. As you can see it’s really not that bad and a quick wipe with a finger when I was in the boot cleans it up. Well worth the money saved over the OEM system that’s ghastly overpriced to say the least but then that’s how big business works I suppose.

Mine tends to look worse than that after a rainy morning commute, which is mostly freeway. Perhaps more road spray than you experienced? Regardless, cleaning it after you've got out of the car defeats the purpose ;)  It's supposed to rain later this week so if I remember I'll show what mine looks like.

For the people who visit this thread, there is also metal bracket that is sold on aliexpress for approximately 10 eur that will hold this camera/trunk opener in place. You should buy it for easier installation, othervise you will need to glue nee handle or make your DIY bracket for install.
