Spoiler brake light replacement

Featured Replies

Hello,

The lights are dead in the high level spoiler brake light of my Citigo.

Would anyone know if you should replace the whole unit (take out the red plastic holder that contains the LEDS and replace everything) or just replace bulbs once the brake light holder has been lifted out the the spoiler?

And - important question - how much have people spent on this replacement?

I have a Citigo 2017 edition.

Many thanks indeed.

Poppy.

Best to disassemble and poke your multimeter in first to see what may be at fault....

Before shelling out hard-earned cash on new bits...

Here's the guide from the workshop manual on how to remove and replace it.   It's quite unlucky and uncommon to stop working on a car from only 2017.  If you have a simple circuit tester you can check if it's receiving power once its removed before buying a replacement.  If it is then a replacement will mostly likely fix the issue, if its not then unfortunately it'll be some electrical gremlin that'll need further investigation.

Dear Maxy,

Thanks for your time giving me this workshop page. I will certainly look in to using a circuit tester/multimeter beforehand of replacement (as has been recommended by Freemansteve also - thank you).

The position that it is in - possibly vulnerable to water ingress? :-/

Many thanks and best wishes,

Poppy.

Hi Poppy, a cheap 12V circuit tester should cost less than £10, a multimeter will be more expensive but obviously much more useful.

Unfortunately yes I believe the rear high level brake light is integrated with the rear windscreen washer jet so it's possible that water ingress is your issue.  If your rear washer hasn't been working then maybe it's connected issue.

Good luck and hope you can fix it

Unless it's a blown fuse - but having checked the fuse diagram I'm not sure which one to check

Thanks for the tips about the meter/tester.  It might be worth investing in some basic tools like this.

I haven't noticed any problems with rear washer actually but might make the bold move to examine the compartment in any case.

It's going in for a service with Skoda dealer some time soon as still under warranty. If it is something as fundamental as an electrical problem this could be covered? However I should like to know how to fix it myself too with least amount of expense.

Thanks again, if it's a drama I'll report back!

Best wishes

If you are in the warranty period, they will fix it. Just be clear with them!
