Octavia mk3 2017

Featured Replies

Hi does anyone no where I can buy a tailgate micro switch from please as no where seems to have one as skoda have quoted me over 400 pound to do please..... many thanks

Presume you want the boot handle? In which case £400 is a stupid amount of money seeing as you can buy them for a few £ and you can get a handle with a camera in, no coding needed from AliExpress for under £35. Nice upgrade.

Phil,

Please PM me; Sasha has provided me with a spare switch from my 2019 Scout (cos she upgraded my boot handle to have a  camera at the weekend); so I have a spare one available.

Thanks

Nice how much do you want for it and how do I pay please? Are these boot handle cameras expensive?

Reversing cameras - if you speak very nicely to Sasha, she will give you price.  You also have to ask whether you want a genuine VAG or a third party item.  Third party cameras are definately cheaper.

OK many thanks.....

I have a micro-switch from a Yeti if anyone needs it although it is very hard to get the boot handle apart without wrecking it.  I got a spare boot handle from eBay for £24 so I took the old one apart out of curiosity.  The micro switch just needed a wiggle to free it up.  Maybe yours just needs a few technical taps?

If that's all it is I will have a play as skoda wants £315 to do it lol many thanks...

My switch was stuck 'in' so the two contacts were shorted.  If you are going to prise yours apart, put it on top of a radiator or somewhere warm, as the plastic is brittle when cold.  Mine was quite easy to pull from the car, I just pressed both sides inwards with two, blunt kitchen knives.

Huh - what's a MK2 Octavia boot handle got to do with the OP's 2017 MK3 Octavia?

I don't own an Octavia.  But I'm showing you can save a fortune getting a switch on eBay.

I certainly agree a used part from eBay is a good shout and can save a good amount

In future, it might be worth trying to find the correct part to avoid confusion or adding a caveat to make it clear you've not checked. For example, the MK3 boot handle is much larger than a MK2 version and doesn't bolt on this age of Octavia, instead it clips in as it's this style: https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/products/tail-gate-push-button

I'd hate for someone to buy the wrong part unnecessarily :)

On the plus, there should be quite a few of these handles around the forum given the number of reverse camera threads I've seen recently. I've dropped the OP a PM offering my old one and varaderoguy mentioned they had a spare too so I'm sure one of us can save the OP some money ;)

This post upset me as I took it to be quite snarky.  Perhaps it wasn't intended that way.  But I searched eBay and found two Octavia switches for the OP to look at.  In his shoes I would have looked on my car to see if they might fit.  I acted in good faith.  eBay listings don't normally include part numbers

Please accept my apologies, it wasn't my intention to upset so sorry if it came across as snarky.

For me, it came across as a suggested buy so had someone blindly purchased it based on that, they may have been disappointed it was incorrect for the car in question.  I just feel it's worth adding a 'check this will fit' or similar to avoid any confusion or comeback :)

I know you were helping out and I completely agree with the sentiment of trying to find a decent value alternative for the OP. Again, sorry to upset and please don't stop helping as that's what makes the forum such a great place.

@langers2k Thanks.  My mistake.  Your point is valid.
