Does my 1,4tdi BMS engine have a single or doublemass flywheel ?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I have asked around a lot and also emailed Skoda in Sweden in my hunt for the answer of what type of flywheel VAG´s BMS engine have.

Skoda - tells me that I have a DMF.

Youtube - tells me that VAG only have DMF in engines 1,9 Liters and larger.

SO , can someone here please clarify to me as everyone I ask have different oppinions ... :)

That looks like SMF, it's a big lump of cast Iron, DMF is smaller and a lot lighter and much more expensive.

Flywheel part number is on here, if that helps at all? https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/fabia/fab/2010-608/1/105-105010/

045 105 269

Thanks, but I need someone to claify if the 045 105 269 X / 045 105 269 i s SMF or DMF :)

To me it looks like SMF but I have no earlier experience with VAG.

You can always fit a smf on a dmf if money is an issue aswell they do conversion kits :)

It's an increasingly bad idea as a lot of newer engines have been designed around a DMF and the higher shock loading and vibration from a SMF can snap the crankshaft.

Update;

I got in contact with a senior mechanic earlier today at Skoda in Stockholm when ordering some other things and he told me that my Fabia has a SMF ( 045 105 269 ).

Thanks everyone for your support 👍

If so why do dark side developments make a conversion kits specifically for when you want to run more power?

Why indeed. Perhaps you should ask them?

Bear in mind that people who want more power might be willing to sacrifice some reliability, and there are always people ready to be separated from their money for things like this.
