MP3's

Featured Replies

Does the Standard radio in the Sport (stream I think it is) play MP3's I haven't tried it yet but I remember someone telling me it did (dealer I think)

Can anyone clarify this before I start burning CD's with mp3's on?

also if it does will it also do this via the changer in the boot?

No it doesn't you need the Audience System to play MP3's

Thats a shame, dealers will say anything

I have the 'Stream' radio in my car and since the upgraded mp3 compatible stereo would have cost me extra it would figure that the standard one does not play mp3's.

If you want to try (though we already know it will not work) then why not use a CDRW - they're great if you want to change your music every so often but still want to use the same discs.

because I'm a tight AR£$ and have no CD-RW's :)

Not to worry though the 6 discs plus the one in the dash (I'm assuming that will work?) will do me just fine coming from a 1 disc unit before

Yup, the one in the dash works, I didn't even know I had a CD player there for the first week or so that I had my vRS

I find the built in head unit is awkward for inserting CDs. There is a lot of resistance from the unit before the disc will go in even though the motor starts spinning to pull the disc in. If you do not put the disc in at a higher than horizontal angle, it doesn't like it.

The Audience CD upgrade is being stopped and Skoda is making the Stream able to play MP3. You will also be given the option of having a MP3 jack socket in the bottom of the jumbo box, the little socket will only be available on Elegance and L+K.

Do you know if this has already happened and if so the dates as with this being an ex demo (reg in sep 05) it may be different

Won't be available until week 22 build. It will be standard on Elegance and L&K, but can be requested with any optional jumbo box (front armrest) such as on the vRS or Ambiente models.

So what about a newly built Elegance?

What will that get?

I have several CD-R's with tracks burnt from i-tunes (AAC & Apple Losses formats) and they work perfectly OK in the CD changer!.

When is it being built? If it's being after week 22 you'll get an MP3 plug:) , if before, you won't:(

It's already been built. I take it that week 22 hasn't happened yet?

No we haven't quite reached week 22 yet i don't think.

Don't panic, just get an aftermarket adapter like i did. It plugs into the autochanger socket on the head unit. I think there's even one out there that will allow you to retain your autochanger but i didn't worry about that because i've 400 albums on my mp3 player and the boot mounted changer is just a nuisance..

I'm not all that fussed as I'm 90% sure I'll be replacing the stereo with something better that also has bluetooth hands free built in.

I considered that myself but you lose a lot of funtionality by removing the stream head unit and it does everything i want except run a sub so i stuck with it.

So does the VRS play mp3's?

:iagree:

What functionality, apart from the display telling you a few things that you can get from the instruments and controls directly - time, climate control etc?

grahics display of parking sensors distance

gala automatic volume control according to speed of car

radio station/track no. etc displayed on maxidot computer (if fitted)

steering wheel controls (if fitted)

volume automatically lowers when you go into reverse

handsfree phone connection displays 'phone' on maxidot when call received and allows call volume adjustment via head unit and steering wheel controls

changes to climate control system settings repeated on radio display

thats about it i think

Fair enough for some of the features that interact with other systems - gala volume control and parking sensors - but I can do without the simple 'display' replication features, in favour of the features of a different head unit.

Each to their own I guess.

You won`t loose steering wheel controls, for example, but if you want them to work, you have to buy a certain adapter that, at least here in Finland, costs nearly 200 euros. It includes that adapter for your car and an adapter for your radio.

And some after-market radios have that volume control depending on the speed also.

With a right kind of radio (I have JVC KD-DV 5101) it`s so neat to listen to MP3`s from the DVD or watch movies or watch TV via digi-box. And televisions`s voice comes from Skodas own speakers. A little better than some poor Stream system, I would say.

Where did you get this item from? Sounds like just what i'm after. Does it allow a normal jack plug from a mp3 player to be fitted?

Thanks.

Only if your dealer puts in the right codes when ordering on VOT
