1.5 TSI - Exhaust pop noise after long drive on motorway

Hey folks

I have noticed that after a two hour motorway drive, when I park the car and let it idle for a bit, and turn the car off, there is a loud popping noise. The only explanation I have is possibly a residual gas in the exhaust, and since the exhaust is hot, it ignites it.

 

Has anyone experienced this.

 

This is not happening when I drive in the city.
