service plan

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have just purchased a used Skoda Kodiaq 1.4 TSi Edition 67 plate. I have been quoted as below total price over 3 years service plan,  £1614.60 or 46.13 per month what do you think.

included in price

£2 x minor services

1 x major service

Cambelt & water Pump change

DSG Oil Change

Air Conditioning and Refresh Combined Using R1234 YF

Brake Fluid change

Welcome.

Overpriced by far too much.

First off there is no 'Oil change' required on a DQ200 DSG that a 1.4 TSI has.

*So no £199 DSG Oil change required.*

You could be on Variable Servicing so the Oil changes / Services would be each 2 years 18,000-20,000 miles or sooner, so not needed every 372 days / 9,400 miles.

Brake Fluid change is £60 at the time of a service.

First due now at 3 Years, so be sure they have it done before buying.

The next one is due in another 2 years if doing by the Manufacturers Recommendation / Guidelines.

Are those prices including VAT at 20%. Rather extortionate.

DOH.

Sorry i just thought this was in a Fabia section.    Now i see it is a Kodiaq.

Ignore what i said about DSG's if with a AWD.  But then a Haldex Service is due every 3 years.

If a 7 speed DQ200 DSG with a FWD car then there is no DSG SErvicing.

But the 1.4 DSG Kodiaqs have a SIX-speed gearbox, so can't be the DQ200.

@DaveMiller  Cheers, i missed the Kodiaq bit in the OP and it was posted in the Fabia section.

That's very expensive - better to negotiate prices individually.

Was the car purchased from a Skoda dealer? If so then surprised the current PCP offer on used cars wasn't mentioned as, on the face of it ( see below ) it's seems very good.   2yr MOT, 2yr Breakdown and 2yr servicing for £79.  That just leaves you to source:

A minor service ( say £180 )

Dsg Oil ( £200 )

Brake fluid (£60)

Up to you if you want an aircon service, it might not be required but that'd be £140

And then there's the Cambelt.  Normally you'd change belt and waterpump at same time BUT you'd get away with just changing the cambelt because yours is is the 1.4tsi.  You should easily get a cambelt for £400 despite what the recommended prices say or both for £500.

Add all that lot up and the max. you should pay is just over £1000.  £1614 is a truely terrible price. Who quoted you that? Was it Skoda or the dealership's own service plan?  It sounds like the typical con Arnold Clark might try.

PS - Haven't a clue about other 1.5tsi but I had it confirmed that my 1.5tsi Kodiaq has the DQ380 therefore it seems all Kodiaqs require that oil change at 3yr.  ( Our 1.5tsi Karoq has the DQ200 ).

PPS - I was happy with the price Skoda gave me for my Octavia but couldn't believe what they advertised the car for, way over what it should have been. And then it struck me - that PCP offer. So what might seem like a bargain at £79, the dealers are recouping the money ( and the rest! ) via inflated windscreen prices.

Always beware when someone cries 'special offer'.

Don't forget to add on 'Lifeshine' which is £199+ and is basically a small red box of cheaper end autoglym and some chamoit cloths....

Hi All

Thanks for all your detailed replies. I had a skoda v6 Automatic 54 plate for 10 years and loved it but i had a water leak and loads of electrical problems from it so i decided to let it go.

I came across the kodiaq after looking at The Skoda Approved dealership site on line. I to thought i would get a good deal if i brought the car through Skoda before the 30 September when the use car deal ended.

It wasnt until i came to purchase the vehicle that the Skoda Approved dealership runs a two tear system.

The delaship i got my car from only offered me 3 months warranty were i was lead to beleave i would get the deal as stated on Skoda web page

They told me they were Approved Skoda dealership but  opted out of the deals as it cost them a lot of money and allows them to sell the cars cheaper but cout the customer more in buying extra warranty

I walked away shocked and felt mislead i called Skoda customer service and even the call handler had never heard of this and had to get confirmation from a manager who took 5 mins to get back and confirm.

I did go back to the dealership who gave me 12 month (not a Skoda one) warranty to clinch the deal and its them who gave the service plan (again not Skoda)quote.

Skoda asked me to fill out a survey on my experiance on buying a used Skoda and i explained as above but no body from Skoda contacted me. Sorry for going on but thought i would let people know that even though dealerships fly the Skoda Approved fly they dont all work to the same principles as Skoda Uk would like you to belive.

That said i did get a good deal in the end and the spec i wanted and the salesman at the dealership were good to deal with.

Again thanks to all for the advice it has been a great help and saved me a lot of money

Ps just in case some of you dont know (i didnt at the time of purchase) if you want to have a toe bar fitted i was quoted £3500.00 not a joke i was told that the 1.4 engine has to be adapted with diffrent up grades to radiator, water pipes and other parts to allow the engine to cope with the extra load

I work for Arnold Clark, our service plans are nowhere near that kind of price, not even close, their good value

My 69 plate Superb bought last Saturday came with FREE Lifetime Shine (Autoglym) and first 2 services for £79 saving me over £800.

@BRUN

Great Service, if you complain enough and post on Trust Pilot they get back to you quick enough.

Funnily calls go unanswered otherwise,

not available, day off, we will get you a 2nd key, surely you got it on collection.

No we can not code it, get it done at Parks Hamilton and we can pay for it.

So a Service Plan you can purchase, and like the ones that you might get as part of the deal 'Free Gratis' but showing at a price with a used car.

I got one of those last January, 2 Services, 2 MOTS.

Car fails the first MOT on items it failed on the year before at AC and the new Springs and Discs were fitted and then a pass.

The Service was a Oil Change and look see and charged for a new wiper that actually had nothing wrong with it.

New Air Filter or even checked, no not by mileage, new pollen filter fited. no not needed, brake fluid, if you want to pay. anything else, no just the video and report.

So it will not be in for it's next Service & MOT that the voucher covers .

Sir Arnold never got where he did with his generosity, but he did get his Knighthood for services to Charities.

The Motor Group rolls on without him and is just as it always has been. Scandalous.

You are having a laugh about saving £800

I used to do car prep and Warranty Paint work for AC and others, even applying Life Shine.

They quote £499 for the Autoglym product and 2 services on a new Superb cost £396. Maybe cheaper in Scotland but down south everything is dearer.

Quoted £499 for the application of a product that costs under £50 including VAT.

Lots charged for the labour of one on minimum hourly rate, then commission to a sales person and profit earned and tax paid by the dealership.

Nothing to do with Scotland really, other than maybe like Sir Arnold Clark there might be those that know the price of things and the cost and value of getting them done.

I bought the Autoglym Lifeshine kit on eBay (about £40) and did it myself. I was much more careful, slow and thorough than someone else would be, and it took less than 2 hours.  I think it’s actually very good (dirt still comes off easily and the paint still shines, almost 3 years later) ... but £499 is ridiculous.
