Rear Brake Pad Replacement

Featured Replies

2010 Yeti. 2 questions please.

Do I need a caliper piston wind back tool or can I press the caliper back with pressure as on many cars that I have worked on before?

Any recommendations for pads? I was thinking of using Pagid.

Tool needed for the rears.

For front pad material I would have recommended Ferodo Eco Friction which transformed my Octavia giving much more initial bite & a feeling of confidence but on the Yeti with new discs like the Octvavia they have not made much of a difference  if at all.

I bought Brembo rear discs and pads.  Equipped with a windback tool and a 12 point spline bit adaptor for the caliper bolts I set to work. After an hour I gave up as I just couldn't shift the caliper bolts and couldn't even get the disc off the hub (yes I did remove the retaing screw) to try fiddling it past the caliper.  In the end my local garage fitted the parts for me, and said that even they found the bolts tight.  So be prepared for a struggle !

Yes they can be a bitch ... I ended swinging on the end of a 30" breaker bar ... I think the factory need to check the calibration of their torque wrenches ... can believe they are supposed to be that tight :crying:

I've used MTEC for discs and pads on the Yeti (and on the Jag XF) without any problems - would highly recommend

I did mine with Brembo pads and discs but like others, I couldn't get the splined carrier bolts out. They are tightened with a ridiculous torque. I had to give in and take it to my local garage where the mechanic had to remove the whole hub in order to get enough purchase with a large breaker bar with it in a vice. There was no chance I would have managed it on the driveway.

I used a drill mounted wire brush and caliper cleaner, then finished in silver hammerite and the wheels look so much tidier.

Did the rear of my superb 4x4 which is the same as the yeti. The 4x4 makes access to carrier bolts even harder. It wasn't a fun job on the drive.

You needed the caliper piston pushing tool?

The rear discs need the wind back (has to be rotated whilst going back in), this is to reverse the self adjuster ratchet on the handbrake

The front pistons can usually be levered back with big screwdriver

Yes survey. I missed saying that. I did use the caliper wind-in tool.
