Rapid Sport 2015 1.2 TSI - Timing Belt or Chain?

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for a bit of help here please.

I've just put a deposit down from a Skoda approved dealer on a Rapid Sport 1.2 TSI, 2015.  It has 30K miles, and generally looks to be in excellent condition.  I do have a few queries though, mainly on account of not being able to find the maintenance schedule for this car online despite my best efforts!

My questions are:

  • Does this car have a timing belt or chain, and at what stage would I need to have this replaced?

  • There is some surface rust on the exhaust system, is this something I need to worry about on these cars?

  • Ideally if anyone has an idea of servicing costs and what needs done and when that would be great, as i'm trying to work out costs over the next 50K miles.

I plan on taking the car to my regular (not Skoda) mechanic for servicing as Skoda appear to be on the pricey side.

Any help / advice would be appreciated :)

Many thanks

Mark

Do you know the rated power(kw) of car?

It is probably belt driven, but we'll be able to confirm after you give us the rated power of the car...

This is the engine bay of the EA211 (belt driven - 66kw, 81kw) versions:

Surface rust on exhaust system is very common on these cars ( talking about chain driven versions). The back boxes tend to have cracks/patches of rust on the outside protective layer.

I would say that you should add that to your 50k maintenance plan or ask your dealer to change it now if it is really bad...
