Time to replace my trusty Passat b5.5

Featured Replies

Hi all. I've heard these Skoda's are pretty good cars sos thought I would try and bag myself a new stead now my Passat b5.5 130 PD has been condemned by the MOT man. Any help, advice or even good cars for sale would be most appreciated.

depends what you want/budget/spec/type of driving you do

Octavia/superb/rapid would be a similar size to your Passat

Hello Stanley :hi:

I had a 1999 B5 (110 so pre PD) Estate, which I loved, and lasted several years with a mate after I moved it on.

My Mk3 Octavia Estate was similar in size, if a tad smaller, but as a vRS was a very different car.  My Mk1 Superb was cavernous compared to the B5.  As Gissin said, depends on what you want/need.

I may not have a Skoda at the moment, but I'll not hesitate to return to the fold, and quite fancy another Superb.  Mine certainly lived up to its name.

Cheers for the speedy replies guys. Was thinking of an Octavia, estate,TDI. Been looking at motors around the 100k miles mark. Can only really afford max £3k if I'm honest. Would consider a saloon. Also quite fancied a Scout but the tax is a bit high for me....but still might consider one if the right car came along.

at 3K you'll find something reasonable - the saloon isn't that much smaller (boot wise) but with the slanted hatch rear some things can't stand up such as bikes as an example.

you;'ve not really stated what kind of driving you do but as you've opted for diesel I assume you do a fair few miles but one thing to consider some Octavia's have a DPF which if you only do short journeys often you'll soon have to replace that amongst other things - you really need to get diesels up to operating temperature.  If you're only doing say a 5 mile commute i'd be looking at a petrol.

I've attached a few examples:

Thanks for those Gissin.

I dont actually do that many miles but after having the Passat i dont want to back to a petrol engine.  Love the torque and longevity of the diesel motor....and the great MPG...and the way they cruise at motorway speeds.  Just need to get my better 'alf to take me to view them.....and she'll LOVE that;)

I went and bought one guys.  A 2012 1.6 CR TDI Octavia.  One owner, full service history....nice car.  I drove it and it feels like a new car but it has the 5-speed box and ive heard these can be a bit flat in terms of performance.  It seamed ok to me when i test drove it but then i havnt had chance to try a lot of other cars of the same spec etc.  I might consider getting it re-mapped at some point to increase the power a little from its 104bhp so can anybody recommend a decent tuner in the Sheffield area pls?

If it feels flat it might be worth checking the Air Mass Meter (do they still have them in 2012?) before you think about mapping.  Think it may have been before 2012, but I remember someone saying the five speed box was the better one to have.

Congrats on the new car B)  Post up some pics.
