diesel fuel and Pollen filter

Does any know what skoda says about having the diesel fuel filter and the Pollen filter changed at a time  or mileage interval??

2 years for Pollen  / Cabin Filter and 4 years for TDI Fuel Filters. (recently that changed to 6 years where it used to be at 2nd Major Services)

This suits the Extended Scope each 3 years.

So  just as it has been for 'long time mister',  maybe done, maybe not.

Participating Dealers used to charge for Minor or Major Services and not change them saying Not Scheduled..  Took the money, never supplied parts or labour, but charged the same done or not.

 

Now they charge for what you get, and at ridiculous prices.

I got mine changed at its last service, 4yrs, didn't go to Skoda though as their prices skyrocketed a few months prior. 

I love the way they can just change the mileage duration and the fact that it varies so greatly with VW, Seat and Audi even though they're all the same engines at times. 

Personally I ignore the extended intervals and change stuff earlier. A pollen annually or bi-annually can be done DIY as can the air filter depending on your miles. Don’t cost much and your time is free so no labour charge. Not done a diesel filter myself so just pay for that earlier than due, depending on miles, even half the recommended interval to have a clean filter that might otherwise get clogged depending on fuel used. Again it’s up to you and it’s very hard to predict conditions different cars are exposed to.

Definitely.

I was tempted to do the fuel filter but looked a messy job. Turned out it was as the garage I took it to got diesel all over my engine bay 🤦🏼‍♂️

Too messy for me and getting diesel over the cambelt and other belts is dangerous territory so beware of potential engine damage that can occur in this situation. Hence why I prefer leaving it to the professionals. 

Sometimes garage will make more mess they you yourself because you will care more (it is your car after all, not theirs) and be very careful, where as they are in a hurry to get it done. Of course it depends on garage but still...i trust myself more.  :)

I didn't have my pollen filter changed this time around because with lockdown, the car has hardly been touched. And I've a Ken and Nigel air filter, so that doesn't changing either. Only filter which was changed was the fuel one because I know they can be a bit fiddly.

So saved £80 there. Win win.

It is still 'Simply Clever' to remove a Pollen / Cabin Filter of a vehicle not getting used much and vacuum it and wash around the area and dry and refit the Filter'.

 

& with Kerry & Norma Filters, still look in the Air Box to see if it appears nice and clean.

They get dirty just as easily if not more than a 'Disposable filter' but might not be as obvious that they are until an increase in fuel consumption is noticed.

that's it mate. Before it went in the other week for the service, I took the air filter out, cleaned it itself and wiped up any crud at the bottom of the filter housing.

Pollen filter on these Skoda's are so easy to do. Glove box off, a few screws and it's directly in front of you. 

I did my wife's Nissan Leaf, it was behind central dashboard, had to get my fingers to bend in unnatural ways to remove it. 

My dad's Volvo S40 (Ford) is a glovebox + fusebox  + trip removal job. After all that, it's hidden much deeper than the Nissan. 

 

Diesel filter, and engine oil for that matter, are messy and dirty. I don't want to touch these messy ICE parts. I had my 7 year old car done a few months ago by an independent (VeeW in Bristol). They did a great job and very reasonable price considering the amount of fluid/filters they actually did in major service. 

 

 

 

I can't wait to only needing to do pollen + brake fluid every other year. ICE cars are cheap to buy but WOW they are high maintenance.
