2.0 TFSi engine

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am hoping to view a Superb estate that has the 2.0 litre petrol engine and auto box.

Can an anyone advise whether this is a good combination? It seems to be a rarer version and I wondered whether that was a good or bad thing?

What is the cam belt /water pump intervals and do these have any general weak spots?

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

All the best.

What year is it? The TSI engines have a timing chain rather than a belt. I believe the 2.0 can suffer similar problems to the 1.8 - those are well documented around here if you do a search.

I read that the 1.8TSI have a huge oil consumption, even 1l/1000km, keep this in mind

@Racataian

Some 1.8 and some 2.0 TSI Euro 5 emission engines had this issue of high oil consumption  even failure.

Well documented.  If 100% of them had the VW Group would not have got away with them all being lemons.

In the owner manual of 1.8TFSI it is mentioned that up to 1l/1000km oil consumption is considered normal, so with this disclaimer, they get away with it as they did with many other issues in the past(see the first 1.2 TFSI and 1.4 TFSI  engine timing  failure due to poor design not to mention the Diesel gate).  The EGR for the 2.l D it has also a design issue - not many cars go above 150kkm with the original part, some of them fail even bellow 80kkm.

I work in automotive industry and I see how VW  treats suppliers, how much pressure they impose but only on the costs. This is later translated into poor quality and this poor quality is starting with the design.

@Racataian

Are you sure that is what it says for a Euro 5 1.8TSI ?

?

Do you have a 1.8tsi Owners manual you can go and look at?

Very strange if it does, because even 0.3 litres in 1,000 km is not within tolerances even though some employees try saying it is 0.5 litres, because the manual shows that,

or even 1 litre in 1,000 km which they do not..

You are saying exactly what many dealership employees trot out until asked where they have seen 1.0 litre in 1,000 km for oil usage.

All other VW Group manuals for 3,4,5,6,8 or 12 cylinder engines, petrol or diesel say 0.5 l / 1,000 km. (621 miles)

& that is, 'May use as much as',  & may use more in the first 5,000 km.

** The First 1.2 & 1.4 TFSI / TSI issues with timing chains was carried on from Euro 4 into Euro 5 production.

The test results below are from 1.4 TSI Twinchargers with CAVE engines and the CTHE engine upgrade brought a chain tensioner issue in.**

The Invoices / test results below were done wrongly. A litre of engine oil does not weigh 1,000 grams, and the first test meant the owner got a new engine.

The bottom test was also wrongly carried out by some muppet of a technician.
