Oil service

Featured Replies

Hi all,

we bought brand new Skoda Kodiaq (PCP) in May 2019 with annual mileage limit 15k.

For a last few weeks when I turn on the engine it says "Oil service in X days". Wanted to book it online but when I go to web page I have the following options:

Recommended

- Skoda Manufacturer Major Service to Schedule (£214)

- Brake Fluid Change (£60)

- Complementary Health Check and Report (FREE)

Which of the above options equals "Oil service" ?

Do not do it online then.

?

How many days is it saying, and how many miles have you done?

A 18 month - 24 month old car just needs an Oil & Inspection Service, even at 15,000 miles.

Nothing Major about the service.    Pollen Filter due at 2 years or sooner, but needs looking at to see if needing changed.

Then the Brake Fluid is @ 3 years.

If the car was put on Fixed Servicing @ the PDI that is 372 days / 9,400 miles.

From the Factory on Variable Servicing the Interval is 24 months / 18,000-20,000 miles.

The Services are now called 'OIl & Inspection services', Year 1 & 2, or 1st & 2nd Services & then Extended Scope & 3 years.

A pollen filter is the extra cost over and above the Service you need to pay.

This is at Participating Dealership, and is plenty expensive as it is.

 Interim & Major Services were stopped according to Skoda UK at the start of 2020.

Thanks @e-Roottoot.

The car says: Oil service in 5 days and I have done 16k.

Can't I just chose the Complementary Health Check and Report ?

Re: Fixed Servicing vs Variable Servicing - I am not sure which one is in my case - how can I check that ?

If this is your first warning on a service - you are on variable

They will probably do an oil and inspection service at the same time - cheaper than going back twice.

@New11

Whatever it is going to be called and charged at the car needs a Oil & Filter change and a look see / report, and maybe a pollen filter.

Just do not let them charge for a 'Major Service', there are no other parts being changed like a Air or Fuel Filter or Spark plugs.

*You do not say if you have a TDI or a TSI.*

EDIT.

I see it is a TDI that you have.

No idea why the 'Oil Service' is coming up at only 16,000 miles / 18 Months.

?

Had your car been in the UK or at the Dealership for long before being First Registered, or bought by you?

The service trigger date depends on your driving style, how much urban work, how many hills etc.  You will only get the max 30000km (18,641 miles) and 2 years if you do lots of flat main roads.

If you haven’t already had it done, get tyres swapped front-back to even out wear.  Will delay when they need replacement.  If handing it back, might not need to replace any tyres (probably saving £500+ for a set of 4)

It is TDI - how do you know it ?!

@New11

By looking at your previous posts where you said what you had.

PS

A TDI Service Interval for Oil Changes can be up to as high as 20,000 miles, and SEAT or VW might have that as the interval, and Audi or Skoda say 18,000.

As to the cars use and Oil interval being 5 days as at 16,000 miles.

More likely a bunkered car sitting for months before imported to the UK, rather than the Oil Condition from your 16,000 miles of driving.

Maybe not a surprise if it is the oil quality (poor) after just 18 months / 16,000 miles since the Factory fill with VW509 00 /  0w 20 FS IV (type crap.)

@e-Roottootyou may be right re the age of the car.

When we bought the car two facts made me wonder:

  • the wheels inside (close to the brakes) seemed to have rusty colour
  • the soft, internal thingy in the doors which is next to the glass was sort of greenish

Is there any formal way I can check when exactly it was made ?

@SurreyJohn I haven't done this (and didn't know it helps ...) - which way should I follow: https://www.ctyres.co.uk/general/tyre-roation

Is my Kodiaq SE front wheel drive ?

Unless you have the 4x4 Kodiaq, it will be front wheel drive

If the tyres are standard (will say outside somewhere near rim), can swap them diagonally.  If they are directional (will say rotation with arrow pointing) then swap front - back, as have to stay on same side
