Wheel fitment

Featured Replies

Hi. New to Skoda. Just bought 2018 Octavia. Just SE technology. Great car and 1.0 tsi engine.
Thinking of fitting wheels and tyres from mark 3 VRS via e bay to pimp it up a bit.
Will they be a straight fit?? I guess ride will suffer a bit. Any other things to consider.
Many thanks for any help and advice.
Steve.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of posts about wheels and fitment (for future info, you can also use https://www.willtheyfit.com/ for aftermarket wheel checks to your car). The OEM wheels from Octavia VRS Mk3 were either 18" or 19" sizing. Both should be standard fitment in terms of wheel hubs / bolts etc.

To get more specific advice from others in this forum, it would be good if you could specify what size wheels you're going for (or provide link) and any other information with EBay post? I'm no expert in this field and looking to get a/m Neuspeeds anyway, but used WillTheyFit etc to verify fitment.

Things to consider will include:

- Increasing the wheel diameter may affect your speedo calibration, so you might need to get it re-calibrated (Skoda may be able to assist, or any VAG specialist garage)

- You may still find that without suspension changes, there may still be a larger gap than expected re: fitment between wheel and arch. That's a minor thing, but some expect wheels to fully fill these but might just raise the car slightly.

- Unsure what larger wheels will do with stock 'SE Technology' spec suspension, not just in terms of harshness but also any extra wallow etc. since they're not the lightest wheels around and adding unsprung weight might unduly affect performance of the standard car.

Not 100% true, what matters is the TYRE diameter. If you increase the wheel diameter but fit lower profile tyres so that the tyre diameter is the same then the speedo calibration will not need to change.

As an example - a previous car I owned came with 14" wheels (don't laugh!) and 155/65 tyres but in the summer I fitted 16" wheels with 195/40 tyres - this changed the overall diameter by 0.95% so at 70mph the speedo read 70.95 mph.

Standard fit wheels should fit fine across the range brake calipers allowing (going bigger is fine for this). Speedo calibration is not needed if fitting wheels/tyres from a vrs Octavia. If getting wheels/tyres from another model then you may need to pay attention to it.

Many Octavia MK3 owners who go from 16" wheels to 17"/18"/19" wheels will go from 205 tyres to 225 tyres. However, if you go for 17" wheels you have the choice of 205/50R17 tyres fitted to suitable rims such as 6.5Jx17 ET38 from the Skoda Kodiaq. Compared to 225/45R17 tyres, 205/50R17 tyres give you the benefit of less drag, less aquaplanning, more mpg, less unsprung weight, and a significant increase in front and rear track...22mm more front and rear track when comparing ET38 to ET49.

...and one of the best bits about 205/50R17 tyres on 6.5Jx17 ET38 rims, is that this size is available in both steel and alloy rims. So if you went for 4 alloy rims you could have a cheap steel spare. The rims for 225 tyres whether 17"/18"/19" are only available in alloy and not steel.
