Westfalia towbar fitted

Featured Replies

Had a Westfalia detachable tow bar fitted yesterday, drove 40 miles to North West Towbars in Stockport as they have great recommendation from other Yeti owners. I went for the dedicated wiring kit, making it a £600 purchase!!

Sadly that meant passing 3 hrs walking around Stockport town centre whilst i waited!! But at least I found a sit down fish n chip restaurant to pass away some of the time

Pleased with the installation though, and the tow bar fits neatly into the storage compartment in the boot.

I have one of those tow bars in the boot of my car. Is that an aftermarket thing always or could it be factory?

How much did you pay for the fish and chips? Looks nice but it's getting to be a pricey treat these days.

Either, Westfalia are the towbars fitted at the factory.

As Urrell says, Wesfilia are the tow bars that Skoda would fit.

Fish n chips wire £6.75 which wasn't bad for a sit down restaurant, came with bread & pot of tea.

Me likes chips

I have factory fit.

It's Westfalia the same as Dale has fitted.

The only way to be sure is to check the build codes to see if you have factory or aftermarket.

Factory fit towbar will have 1D2 code on your sticker in the boot or in your handbook.  On some models in some markets this also includes cooling upgrades but I've never seen a definitive list as to what upgrades to what engines in which markets.  Although I have seen a list for the Karoq.

I'm told that the VW Toureg has upgraded cooling fas if specified with the tow kit when ordered brand new. You'd think a car that six would be more than capable of towing straight out of the box.

Well at least I'm now ready to tow my caravan, just in time for Lockdown 2 to close caravan sites again !!!

There were some Yeti's that had a higher spec cooling fan than standard if towbar prep was specified or towbar fitted at factory but I've not seen an official list.

This is the list for the Karoq.

Personal choice, of course, but that hook is a hefty lump of steel which I prefered to leave at home when it wasn't on duty.  (Past tense, as my caravanning days are sadly over  )

Weight wise the detachable hook is relatively  peanuts. and secured safely and securely in the boot storage.

And you never know when it will come in handy. I always have a recovery rope in the boot as well.

True.  My last time, though, was several years ago in a 110 Landy, hoisting a casualty off the crumbling lip of a step at the top end of Lake Vyrnwy.  (Repaid with a dozen fresh fish - the only mackerel ever caught on a tow-rope.)  But I leave such feats to the younger fellas nowadays

The only time I get to overtake people in my LR Defender is when theres snow, then I cruise past every other car with ease as they struggle. Maybe now I'll also be able to do the same in my Yeti?

That will mostly depend on your tyres, and on whether anyone gets in your way!
