Drivers seat

Featured Replies

My Drivers seatback moves back when I travel to work and back, around a 80 mile trip, can be as much as 25mm movement on the adjusting knob. Still under warranty at present. Robin

Some replies of "They all do that, mate", but perserverance got new seats fitted.

I have the same problem

Hi Mine does this too.  I was all set to take it in for a replacement frame (big job) but I then trier to make the seat about 2" too upright. I then wiggled and drove a bit and the seat then reclined on its own a bit to the position I actually wanted and its been there ever since.  I think there is a bit of play initially when winding the seat forwards towards the screen and then sitting back on it but then (if you are lucky) it will stop moving once the slack has been taken up.   I know it should breally be replaced but I couldn't be bothered with the faff as this process seems to work for mine.  I suspect some seats may be "looser" than others though so it might not work for everyone.

Cheers,

Paul

My seat back definitely used to recline on its own but after reading the quote above I thought I'd try winding the seat forwards and backwards while empty to its fullest extent several times and it seems to have worked! It's like the slack in the mechanism has been taken up and it's not moved since!

Sorry to cross post but I have just updated another thread with my latest trial and tribulation on this - hoping that this might reach a few more if on here too :-)

Hi Guys,

I'm having a nightmare with this problem.  My seat does exactly this and its been in the garage for 1 week so far.  They say they can't replicate and went to technical for advice. Technical have told them that this is not and issue / they have not had this reported. Told the dealer I am not happy.  The only reason I am not happy is really from a safety perspective  - I just don't know how the seat will react in an accident and whether it is safe.  Added to this (of course) it is a pain to have to adust it every day (but if it was only that I could live with it).  The garage tell me that they are in a tricky situation - I have been advised that the they "can't replicate it" and "its never been seen by us before".  They can test it properly because they are unable to drive it for an hour or more (to see it happen) as they are not able to claim the costs back from the warranty side of things..  I sat in the car with them observing and "simulated" a drive by bouncing around on the seat and wiggling and the dial moved probably 1cm - so for me that was demonstrated.

I'm not sure where I can go next.  I have asked the garage to escalate it to Skoda UK and give me a case reference number.  I can then talk to them about it but I feel this is not going to go the way it should be going.  I am so fed up with this - I really want my car back.  I am pretty rural so going to another garage is going to be quite difficult. The only other garage in sensible driving distance is a Seat garage - What can I do with Skoda UK that is going to make them sit up and listen?

I said that I might be able to get some other people to give me their case reference numbers (where they have had the frame replaced) but I fear Skoda UK will not accept these as they will likely be done on a case-by-case basis.

Grrrrrrrr.

Thanks

Paul

Really sorry to hear about the problems you are having with the dealer. I had the same problem with my drivers seat, I didn't bother reporting it until I took it in for the 1st service, they ordered some parts in advance but unfortunately not the correct parts, they then ordered, I think a new seat base, there was no quibble they just accepted what I had told them. I have worked in the trade all my life and always work on the basis if a customer complains about something they are not happy with,  their must be a fault. It is a known fault and a very frustrating one. Try Skoda customer services. Ps when I took the car back the job was completed in a day. Have you got another dealer near you?

Hi Clap005, "Have you got another dealer near you?"

Sadly only a Seat dealer which is an hour round drive (who is authorised to service the Skoda - and did so last year for me) but I am not sure where they would sit with warranty claims and dealing with Skoda UK being Seat.  The other nearest Skoda dealer is 3 hours round trip - even then they may not want to help if the other garage has already talked / emailed "Skoda Technical Services" and they have told me that they were told by "Skoda Technical Services" its not a fault.

All very annoying - I will wait to see what Skoda UK CS have to say once the dealer has called them 1st and given me a "case number". I insisted on this so the ends all tied up together in the hope that it might speed up the process.  I won't hold my breath :-(    I will also ask them to sign a letter confirming that a drivers seat back that moves on its own and in this manner is not a "safety risk" and that if the seat were to fail catastophically in an accident they would be personally liable. I expect they will politely decline that request.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Clap0005,  Have you had any further problems with your seat since the new base was fitted?

Out of curiosity what make and size were the original factory supplied tyres?

Bridgestone Turanza T001 215/50/18 92W I've put the same on again as happy with milage covered, and I also like the way the sidewall protrudes out, protecting the alloy wheel rim 😀
