Kamiq Spare Wheel Set

Featured Replies

Hi,  when i bought my Kamiq in Spetember, I purchased the optional spare wheel set.

I, may have naively, assumed that the spare would be the same size as the ones currently fitted. However my tyre sizes are 215/45R/18  but the spare tyre is 195/60R/16  (both are by Good Year)

So my rather obvious question is, is this acceptable, or an error by the dealer?

thanks in advance

OK as an Emergency Spare wheel to get you to a place of safety or a puncture repair.

Reset the TPMS when you fit it,

reduce your speed since you have a temp wheel / tyre on of a different size / weight / tread & tyre pressure.

Best check you have the socket for your security wheel bolts, that you can get all the wheels off, and use the jack.

Change them all to 195/65R15 or 195/60R16 so that the wheels are all the same size. 18" look silly on the Kamiq because you only need 14" wheels to clear the small 256mm diameter front brake discs. It's possible that the more powerful versions of the Kamiq have front discs bigger than 256mm. Even if the more poweful Kamiq models do have front discs with a diameter bigger than 256mm, I doubt any model would need more than 16" wheels.

@Carlston

Are you rolling in money and is that really what you would be doing if you happened to have got a new Kamiq?

I would have had a word with the salesman, and my shiny new Kamiq would have left the showroom with the wheels that I wanted not the wheels that he thought I wanted.

If you really want 18" wheels, probably better to buy a big car such as the Kodiaq that still have decent sized sidewalls at 18" diameter.

And there's always ebay to offload unwanted big wheels to unsuspecting fashion victims...

@Carlston   No idea what you are talking about from what the OP is.

It is about buying a Spare Wheel & Kit and no mention of the wrong wheels on the car they have.

195/60R16 is the correct sized spare wheel.

The idea is to use it as a get you home measure, ie. a space saver.

Drive carefully when driving on different sized tyres and don't exceed 50mph (80km/h).

I doubt there would be space for the wide 215/45R18 to fit. Also, a 195/60R16 tyre on a steel rim is much cheaper than a 215/45R18 on an alloy rim. You can't get 18" steel rims that fit the Kamiq.

The cars 215/45 R18 better fit in the spare tyre well.

If your car has passengers and luggage and you need to fit the spare because of tyre / wheel damage it needs to go someplace while the spare is fitted.

The outside diameter of a 215/45R18 tyre is 650.7mm.

The outside diameter of a 195/60R16 tyre is 640.4mm.

So the 215/45R18 tyre is going to fit in the wheel well. Whether it's fits flush with the floor is another matter. There's only 20mm difference in width between these two tyre sizes, but that 20mm difference might be the difference between having a flush floor and not having a flush floor. Maybe try it and see?

Thanks for all the "mainly" positive answers folks  :)

PS  the wheels / tyre's fitted came with the car from new...not an optional extra etc.

The answer is No its not a dealer error They come with that size Space saver that is the size of tyre mine is the same you only use them to go and get your tyre sorted not to run all the time

You will find the wheel well is a bit snug for the 650mm diameter of the 215/45 R18 tyres (when new), obviously 2-3mm of worn tread knocks 4-6mm off diameter.  From memory there is literally only a few mm clear of the 640mm spare in the wheel well.

The main problem with 215/45 R18 tyres is they are quite an expensive size, with limited choice in that size, and because it is an obscure size, don’t expect your local tyre shop to have any in stock.  Hence spare may be on for few days whilst a matching replacement is sourced. (Even many big online tyre companies want 5 days delivery for these, which suggests could be coming from warehouse abroad)

Absolutely.  The tyre us a day or two away if you need one - and the sidewalls are thin and easy yo damage.

You need to have the spare wheel if yoo need not to havevthe car laid up due to needing a tyre.

(Looking forward to the day when they need replacing and can fit tyres with a better fuel economy rating)

Leading on from the OP from which I gleaned very little, I'm in the process of buying an SE L Kamiq with 215/45 R18 tyres.

I have in my possession a space saver which I had in my current car, which is 145/85/R18.

Will this fit the Kamiq and if so, will it be legal and also, will it fit in the boot well ??

The Kamiq uses 5 bolt 100 PCR (bolt spacing) and 57.1mm centre ring.

Most of the bigger Skoda use 114 PCR rims, if it is one of those the bolts won’t line up

The diameter is about 2% less which is fine for emergency wheel at limited speeds

An answer I can understand - thankyou. Will I have to offer the spare wheel up to the Kamiq when I get it, or does it help if I say the wheel was one I bought for my current Kodiaq with 19" wheels ?

The hole in the centre of the space saver is approx 57cm, so I assume it will fit on the Kamiq ? I also assume that maybe I had the wrong size wheel for the Kodiaq :crying:.

I think you mean 57mm, not 57cm hole

The Kodiaq has bigger 112 bolt spacing, so bolt holes are different

(I made error earlier the bigger bolt spacing is 112 not 114)

Whoops sorry, you are correct.

That's annoying info as I'll now have to try and sell the wheel and buy new for the Kamiq .

It does fit but it's tight and awkward - fold the seats down, then feed the edge by the cack bumper in first.

The wheel is too big to fit in the luggage space in the boot - it has to ho go in the spare wheel well.

To make it easy, the plastic wheel retainer screw comes out if you trust it ¼ of a turn once the tension is off it

Hi there, I am able to get hold of this   -    SEAT LEON / VW / AUDI / SKODA SPARE WHEEL - SPACE SAVER 1K0601027F fitted with T125/70R16 Tyres,

My question is,  would this be a suitable fit for my Kamiq  please ?

The standard Kamiq tyre sizes have an outside diameter between 11.9% and 13.1% larger than the far too small 125/70R16, as shown in the chart below.

Up to 1.5% difference is generally regarded as small and insignificant. Up to 5% difference is a big difference, but may be acceptable as a temporary get you home measure. More than 5% difference is too big.

Outside diameter of tyre

125/70R16 581.4mm

205/60R16 652.4mm (+12.2%)

205/55R17 657.3mm (+13.1%)

215/45R18 650.7mm (+11.9%)

However, you could change the 125/70R16 to a 135/90R16 as shown in the chart below.

Outside diameter of tyre

135/90R16 649.4mm

205/60R16 652.4mm (+0.5%)

205/55R17 657.3mm (+1.2%)

215/45R18 650.7mm (+0.2%)

Have you checked whether there's room to fit a full size spare in the spare wheel well, such as 205/60R16 fitted to a 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel rim?

I suggest you order the below foam and jack kit from a VAG parts department using the OEM part number 658093860A. However, check with them to make sure that this is correct for your car. At about £40, it is surprisingly good value and includes everything except for the actual spare wheel. Once you have the kit, you can see how one of your current full size wheel fit...and take it from there.

To give you an idea of how much room the standard wheel sizes will take up, I have compiled the following chart. Note that the actual inflated width of a tyre always depends on the rim width to which it is fitted.

As you can see in the chart below, the actual inflated widths of the standard tyre sizes on the Kamiq are all within 5mm of each other.

Actual inflated width of tyre

205/60R16 fitted to 6J rim 209mm

205/55R17 fitted to 6.5J rim 214mm

215/45R18 fitted to 7J rim 213mm

Thanks ever so much for your reply, much of it over my head lol , the actual item comes complete as a kit, so my concern was really about the steel wheel actually fitting my bolts.

I don't travel too far in my car so as long as it would get me out of trouble ( if needed ) thats fine by me.

Thanks again.

Both the alloy and steel rims use the same wheel bolts.

Oops, is what I meant to get clarified was, is the bolt hole spacing correct on the  SPACE SAVER 1K0601027F  to fit mine ?

Sorry about that, and I am very appreciative of your advice Carlston.
