DMF possible knocking.

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just about to get my 2008 Octavia scout back from my guy who normally does my servicing.  I’ve noticed a type of knock for while now. He seems to think it is the DMF. The car has done over 150K miles, and runs well. Any idea of cost to have it fixed now or just wait till it fails?

rough costs as you'll want to replace your clutch at the same time. £300 for the DMF & clutch kit + fitting around £300 was what my local Indy/specialist quoted me

they can either just fail and you wont be able to drive it or it locks up and push the springs through the gear box although I think that's rare.

My last octy has covered similar miles when It started being noisy although It was quieter once hot but I managed another 50K miles and the sound stayed the same and it was perfectly drivable in that time - this all depends on your driving though lost of use of the clutch / stop start will wear it out sooner.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, the noise hasn’t got any worse since I noticed it a while back so I’ll just take it easy and keep my fingers crossed for now anyway. 👍🏻

Arse - Dual Mass Flywheels.  If you are invested in the car, then you might want to google single flywheel conversion kits - and get the clutch replaced whilst you are there.

Not really invested in the car, it has hardly cost us anything (apart from the purchase price) as it hasn’t had much wrong with it tbh. Had it for 6 years and done about 75 to 80000miles in it. I think the flywheel has been making a noise for a while. We do mainly motorway driving so less strain than a town car would get on the flywheel.

Don't think you can use the SMF on the 2.0 engines only the 1.9's.
