How does the engine know the caliper is removed?

Featured Replies

All I've done is Jack up rear wheel, remove caliper(top section) and pads. Now when I turn the ignition on I get a flashing EPC warning light. Also I can't rotate the wheel (to get better access to caliper mounting bracket bolts). The handbrake is also released. Any ideas what's going on?

It's possible that the hub and or ABS sensor is damaged.

I'm assuming you don't have any diagnostic equipment?

I may buy a scanner from eurocarparts, I thought abs sensor also and it's locked the wheels up, could that be possible?

Should I just remove the sensor?

But I don't see why the abs sensor should be damaged, maybe I knocked it by mistake.

Unless you have not expressed yourself correctly then the caliper and pads are removed, if that is the case then the cause of the underlined text should be your first investigation.

I also assume that you mean that you cannot rotate the hub as the wheel would have needed to be removed to remove the caliper & pads.

Some details of your vehicle would also help.

Is this the same vehicle problem ?

Thanks, AG Falco

If so I wonder if the incorrect discs have been fitted and are contacting the carrier (incorrect depth rather than incorrect OD). That wouldn't explain the fault light, which I suspect is linked to the wheel speed sensor as above. Either disturbed rust or cable damaged during the brake job.
