2.0 tdi only regen on idle

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure it was soot calculated that triggered it. The regen started shortly after the calculated went over 18g which tallies with this graph from a VW SSP and 576km seems an odd maximum between regens.

DPF soot measurement in VCDS | Audi A5 Forum & Audi S5 Forum

Had another look through the logs I have, I've attached the only two that seem to have RPM and Particle filter: difference pressure:

log_0001.CSV

log_0002.CSV

There should be some section with the engine idling (probably the start and end of the log?) and the rest is normal driving.

Best I can do I'm afraid as I no longer have the car :)

ok i dont have program to open your loogs sadly, ok mine always start regen on 25 grams meassured,

There just CSV files, Microsoft Excel or Openoffice Calc are ideal to open them :)

Even notepad can read them but it'll look quite confusing ;)

i tried in excel but it was just alot of mumbo jumbo,,, i dont think i really understand it.

now my girlfriend came home for lunch and the engine light was on, got faultcode p0405, she said she had accidently gotten the engine to stop and when she started again the light was on, i cleared it and it wnth away.

car has now driven for 35km and soot has risen from 7 to 20 grams, this is not good but better then before,

Doing logs is beyond my skillset & even if I could saving them to the computer, finding them again and posting them on the forum would be way beyond!

I did however lood at some advanced measuring blocks in VCDS.

With the engine 3/4 warmed up the DPF DPS values were:

3hpa at tickover

27hpa at 2000 rpm

51hpa at 2500 rpm - This is the maximum revs at standstill & I wasn't going to drive with a computer and notebook on my lap and a pen in my hand :D

There was also a measuring block for the DPS raw value which was slightly different, perhaps by the amount of yet another one called DPF offset which was at 6hpa.

The soot calculated was shown as 15.04g and the soot measured as -3.09, whenever I look the measured value always seems to be negative but the variable names & their units of measure etc are always screwed up in VCDS and make little sense to me, I have given them in case they mean anything to you.

Many thanx this makes me more sure of the dpf in my car being full. Since i have like 12 hpa att low idle and 100hpa åt 2500rpm

My pleasure, I forgot to say that my vehicle has done 92000 miles, 10K of which by myself, I have no idea of how it was used before.

Mine is the 110hp 2.0 Tdi like yours.

How many miles has your vehicle done so that I can learn from your experience please?

I don't have ay diagnostic equipment, so would my 2017 TDI Yeti give an audible alert when performing a regen, or a dash indicator light?

I've only ound this snippet..

No it provides no notification, other than a noticeable increase in revs on idle.

Thanks. I believe this is part of the problem with certain Jaguar and Land Rover models, with the region not being able to complete it's cycle.

Its a shame that there are no programmable outputs, I would love to know that a regen was going on while I was driving and not find out after I had switched off & stepped out of the vehicle to hear the radiator fans.

And no, I dont want to be looking at a smartphone while I am driving.

Same here. Which phone apps allow this, and what other equipment would be needed?

VAG-DPF is the software for Android and it works with most Bluetooth/OBDII adapters

Thanks, but mines an iPhone

Is this the type of OBD2 adapter you refer to?

Even better. But is there a suitable app for iPhones do you know?

Not that I am aware of, I know that VAG-DPF is Android only as the writer only does Android, there may be something I just don't know, never having had an iPhone.

To be honest a cheap secondhand android phone is less than £20 doesn't need a SIM as can be updated over WiFi and will give you a dedicated unit.

Hello, interesting article and responses & helpful, thanks. I have a,question.....If the build up of soot is so great, would it not show up in an emissions check? Had P0405 code for a while (yeti 4x4 170 ps).. Sprayed EGR cleaning fluid in and I've used an additive (millers), every third tank for 10 years. Engine management light resets & remains off, until the 3 Rd restart when it illuminates again..... Same procedure every time....TUV passed last week and emissions fine and no mention of EM light. Acceleration, top speed & fuel economy all good, especially fuel economy, autobahn, rural and a little town use and achieving about 1000km on full tank.

manifested itself after using a power wash......water in to the engine bay and electrical fault? I've checked sensor and it's o and wiring seems ok.

Any thoughts?
