How good is the Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

Hello All

I am a potential Fabia vRS owner and I am very intrested in what extra a Fabia vRS would give me over my current car a 1.6 Focus 'Black' special edition.

I hope to be convinced by the posts in this website.

Cheers

Hello :wavey:

Greetings. Having not driven a Fabia can not really help. That said reading the comments with regards to handling on here I would have to say the ford is proberbly better (standard anyway) in this regard. I have enjoyed the handling of all the work focus I have driven. Therefore if you test drive one make sure you give it a good drive on back roads.

In terms of engines I love the tourque diesels have as it makes driving so much easier and I have driven the 130 in a passat and really liked the engine.

More knowledgable fabia people will I am sure be along soon.

Welcome,

Have a good look at the fabia section as there has been a few posts about it ;)

As for what extra will it give you over your ford, it depends on what your looking for in a car and what you need!

Take a look at www.skoda.co.uk for the current specs and prices

The Fabia VRS gives a very decent "shove" of power in the mid-range which is very nice because it doesn't have to be thrashed to pick up quickly. Also, with sky-high fuel prices it can de driven like a grandad and give very good MPG.

As been said the focus prob handles better, but haven't said that the Fabia VRs is still very capable in that regard.

honest answer for u mate.......

furby vRS ingear acceleration fantastic nice burning off bigger cars, i love the build quality of mine, fuel economy even raggin it, looks grow on u, everyhing really is better than the focus (very common lol) but the handling on ur focs is far better than the furby(i used too have a focus), but i prefer the furby by a mile.... plus gives idiots something too give u stick about and make themselves feel better that they drive the same as everybody else. i only took one for a test drive coz they were always raved about in the motoring press and not looked back since.

hope this has helped

Biggest plus point is you won't have to deal with Ford dealers anymore.

Other than that you really need to go and drive one to make your own decision. You will find lots of tips and advice on here so go get yourself a test drive then ask away :P

the focus will sound better, look better, handle better, be more fun to drive.

i owned one for about 10 months and really enjoyed it, mine was the 1.6 and i wanted a faster car so bought a 1.8T octavia and tbh miss the drive of the focus sometimes.

my brother has a 1.8 zetec 3dr with manifold/decat/cat back/eibachs and its bags of fun with great handling, shame it doesn't have the shove that mine does

you know you shoulda got an RS... and you're more than welcome to buy me a nice PE turbo conversion

:haha:

i do believe a focus RS to be superior to my car :(

Very true, although Skoda dealer servicing is quite a bit more costly :(

I think the Fabia VRS is like Marmite...you either love it or hate it.

you should really try it yourself and make your own mind up and also ask about servicing costs etc.

I have driven a ford focus many times at work and was very impressed but the Fabia had something about it that made it much better to drive.

I made my own mind up by doing test drives you should too, their are alot of people on here this forum that seem to like putting off people who are looking to buy a Skoda Fabia VRS. Mostly the Octavia drivers and people who are having a mid life crisies, aswell as others who bought a Ford Barge (scoobychris) lol:rofl:

The Furby is a cracking little car. I love the looks, the interior is spot on, the seats are stunning (although a little keen to show up grubby marks). The engine is a stormer, and once remapped is capable of embarrassing much more expensive machinery. The handling is quite capable, but as long as you don't think of it as a hot hatch, you won't go far wrong.

Tom.

A balanced view? On a skoda forum???

Well I will try....

Firstly welcome! Im a bit of a skoda nut but also supervise a small fleet of cars for the local mobility centre. Ive just got in a 1.6TDCI focus in basic lx trim.

On first impression its has to be said the vRS beats the focus on power and all round vision. Also the focus has more room in general, but then it is 1 class up (fairer comparison would be to the octavia). As for handling, well the focus has the edge, but then has it not over most cars in its class. I think that this is down to the wonderful rear axle set up. Having said that when we took it out for a spin my TDi with rear ARB was better over the twists and turns. This 1 simple and relatively cheap modification, I think goes a long way to sortuing the achilles heal of the fabia.

Interior wise I find the focus boring, dark and very middle off the road. The fabia is much lighter (some might say too light when it comes to keeping it clean!) and brighter with generally a better feel to the controls. Also I can get more comfortable in the fabia, I find the focus too enclosing.

Hope this helps, they are to be honest very different cars filling different niches. The fabia is more sportier, powerful and to be honest more fun to drive. The focus is more refined, roomier (but see comment above) and has a better standard suspension setup.

you own a MONDEO, how can you give a balanced view?:thumbup:

it's soo steady Eddie! just plain boring!:P

would you ask your grandad advice on a fun car to drive?.............

nope....... so dont ask ScoobyChris!!.............

he has not got a "Scooby" ;)

I think you should make your own mind up.

but he did have a scooby hence the name

Well well,

I'm mighty impressed by the number of responses to my post. Thankyou to everyone.

So shall I change my car? Well a test drive is on the cards.... watch this space, yellow is a nice colour. I might even have a look at a nearly new Octavia...

Here is a link to the spec of my current car for all those who are intrested.

Your right he DID have a scooby but NOT now! I was only having a laugh mate chill. Where the big pill picture when you need one!

So I havn't driven one? or had plenty of test drives in one?

all I know is that for the money you can't beat it new!

yeh maybe the octy? but he may not need all the room. Like me the Fabia fits what I need perfectly and it does many others in todays climate to. thats why it is such a good buy for me!

Well well' date='

Nice, I drive this when I have the chance at work. Exactly the same. nice cars to drive but no poke at all for a 1.6. I'e driven a Fabia VRS as many times as I have the Focus and the fabia is far better in a comparision. But then thats is my opinion and my needs are what it is based against.

Hi Bretts & welcome

Your best bet is to see your Skoda dealer and use the Fabia VRS like I did for a good 24 hours. This is the best way to get an impartial view (your own) instead of being led by others.

Don't get me wrong though, some of the views on this forum are from real experts & enthusiasts but like I said, YOU are your own best judge.

:iagree:

tbh at the end of the day who cares if someone else doesn't like the shape of the rear quater light or the noise it makes in 3rd gear at 32oorpm or whatever as long as you like it buy it, your the one driving it everyday :)

Hi and welcome.

alright m8

like people have said. its best to go down to the dealers and take one for a prolonged drive.

on my personal experience:

the focus, even the 1.6 handles alot better than the fabia. though the steering is vague at best on both. the steering on the focus is very reactive though. u'll find when u turn the steering wheel for about the first cm of steering nothing really happens.... the focus ride was more comfortable but there are more rattles in the interior on the focus. overall the fabia is more solid but the focus was definately more fun in stock mode. the fabia is a good all rounder but it doesnt spark excitement as other cars do. the one thing u will find is that the fabia is alot better on the juice. the 1.6 i was using approx
