DSG 184 VRS thoughts

Featured Replies

After a bit of trial and error and I have finally got my car as I like it.

I tried the driver profile switchover from incremental to direct. At first  I thought it made a difference to the throttle response and gearbox changes.  However after doing lots of driving and trials I have now decided upon it does nothing apart from alter how quickly the profiles switchover.

Now onwards to the brakes. There is a function called starting vibration reduction. This basically applies the brakes to the front wheels when they are spinning. I deactivated that and the throttle seems so smooth now and more eager to pick up. With it switched on it seems like there is a heaviness to the throttle and how thr engine picks up. Almost tardy with the response. With it off it is silky smooth.

Now driver profiles. Going between VRS and Normal mode. I found the best balance is in VRS mode and the DSG in D. The gears move up and down very smoothly in that setting and nowbis always in the right gear. When slowing down to take a corner, sometimes in Normal and D it would stay in 3rd gear. Now when slowing down in VRS and D, it goes into 2nd and the changes are quick and snappy. The jerk sometimes between 1st and 2nd when cold has gone. Very happy with it now and it drives and reacts like it should.

Having not been at the helm of a vrs what does vrs mode actually do?  Is it throttle mapping and steering like you get in S in other cars?

Having owned a 2015 model Vrs 184PS DSG it is Skoda making the cabin feel different or special from other models with a Mode selection button. It just gives you the same options of Normal, Eco, Sport or Individual unless the car has the optional DCC when you gain a comfort mode for the dampers. It's just sporty BS like the Vrs badge on the bottom of the flat steering wheel.

Okay - the difference between VRS and Normal mode is usually a power mapping function within the ECU; if you have the Soundikator, then it also makes it louder (I firmly switch it OFF in VCDS).  I am firmly convinced (but I know I am wrong) - that the DSG 7 DQ381 has a complete mind of its own - doesn't talk to the engine, because as OP stated, trying to get the car to a state where everything is working correctly with each other is a bit trial/error.
