Headlights cleaning

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the Octavia 2 headlights can be separated in order to clean the inside of the projectors.

My headlights don't seem as good as they used to be, I have put brand new osram nightbreaker lasers in with no change.

I have used the osram nightbreaker bulbs since I've owned the car and the headlights have always been really good, it could be the new style of bulb causing the issues but wanted to rule out the projector lenses being dirty if at all possible.

What other high performance halogens have you all tried? I don't fancy LEDs I know the canbus in the VRS is quite difficult to bypass.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

As I recall the units are welded/bonded together, I use and recommend Autolamps Cobalt II Halogens.

As MicMac said - sealed I'm afraid.  I ran nightbreaker too and they seemed a reasonable step up from standard.  LEDs get very mixed reviews, I guess you get what you pay for.

Get a cloth in through the bulb hole

This was showing the muck on the back of the lens prior to cleaning. I used a toothbrush with the neck bent 90 degree (softened to bend using a lighter flame) with a cloth wrapped around it's head.

Torch shone through from the inside to show the dirt.

Not sure if the FL headlight block comes out as easily as the pre FL............. If it does, remove, and do the cleaning inside in the warm (hopefully)

Well, as easily as the pre FL apart from disconnecting the lead, Lol.

How did you manage to get the projector out of the pre FL?

I was actually looking at a set yesterday but couldn't fathom out how it could come out without splitting the entire assembly.

The screws holding it to the plastic bracket are done up from the other side, and I couldn't pop the ball joint off the end of the adjuster either.

I'm just referring to cleaning it this way (as below) Sam. and taking the headlight out of the car to do it, To clean the back of the 'eye' lens.

I have mended the adjuster screw on mine before but I cannot remember how I did it now.........

Yes the FL headlights come out fairly easy.

Undo the clamping nut, press down the locking lever and pull the lock slide out.

Then the whole unit slides out, it doesn't look easy to undo the lead though.

Have you managed to clean anything yet and if so what are the results?
