Something dangling behind front grille

Recommended Posts

Just cleaning some bird dirt from the front of my car and noticed something dangling behind the front grille of my VRS. I can't see it from under the bonnet so does anyone know what it is? I'm assuming a temp sensor? Cheers

No clues anyone?

With that in mind, is it easy to remove the undertray so I can have a look? My car is under warranty but not sure this is a warranty item. I'd be happy to re-attach it myself if it was easy to get to.

Looks similar to mine. Clearly it was clipped to something at sometime. Hard to get to thanks to the undertray and plastic covering everything.

Yeah, it definitely belongs somewhere and shouldn't be free range. The thin part of that looks like a plunger switch of some sort. Does it move? Bonnet open sensor?  In an ideal world, you Skoda dealer would be kind enough to have a quick look for you.

This could help https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/

I think it just clips onto a piece of plastic somewhere.

I'd be tempted to fix it sooner rather than later as flapping around could damage it's wires. It looks like part number 11 on this diagram:

One rather pants video of a Leon owner randomly talking rather than actually replacing it, still it shows the sensor fitted:

Phoned Skoda and told them about the issue. They'd have a look but if not a manufacturer defect then they'd charge me £96.

They told me that it didn't sound like a manufacturer defect despite my protestations...

Any thoughts on next course of action? Skoda UK?

Probably not what you want to hear, but I'd probably just refit it myself...

£96? They're good aren't they. Well, having looked at part 11 in the diagram above and the video posted, I think this could be repaired for about 10p. Whip the undertray off and cable tie it to the cross beam (part2 in the diagram).

If it was really easily accessible I'd more than happily fix it myself.

I guess I'm a bit annoyed that I paid top whack for a 3 year old car that has done less than 21k and now I have to sort it myself. Maybe my expectations need to be managed 🙃

i'd be flippin cross too. Not what you expect given the outlay.

Given how close it is to the grill, I would cable tie it to that for now to save it from damage. Perhaps when the weather is warmer, pop the undertray off then.
