Rear nearside light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My nearside rear light has a dimmer area than the rest of the C shape (the bottom section) I can see the lamp is on but dimmer than the rest. Is this a bulb replacement job or something to do with me activating the second rear fog light.

The rear fog light works as it should, and when i activated it via OBD Eleven, i made sure all the lamps were set to 100% light output as per instructions. I'm not sure if this is something new or has happened since i activated the rear fog.

I am slightly confused to which lamp it would be, is that one the w5w or the H21W ? Access looks tricky, there dosen't seem to be an opening flap within the boot to get inside?

Thank you

De-activate it & see what happens

Could be the bulb, or holder, I recently had to change my bulb holder cos it failed.

It's a bit fiddly getting the lense out to access the bulbs, first remove Trim, them 2x torq screws, jiggle the lens , then reveal bulb holders, it's tight ,but turn them and pull.

The contact had corroded , thought I might clean it up, then it broke.🤪.

To change it the whole lot needs to be unplugged ,then a new bulb holder loom put in.

Water had got in some how drained quarter pint out!

I'll have a look on Thursday or at the weekend. This sounds like my issue, the lamp seems to be back to 90% brightness from 20% brightness on Sunday..

Thanks

An update for the record books. I took the light out of the car (a right pain in the arse, why is it so tight. VW's have a much better system) and found no water.

Took the light apart and the bulb out, a small piece of black plastic was inside the lens possibly blocking the lamp and it's light output.

All put back together and works perfectly. A strange one.

The new lamp (H21W) from Amazon will sit in the garage in case it does blow.

thanks

So the output was dim again. I took the light out again and found the lamp had burnt itself damaging the bulb holder. I had to try and scrape a fair bit of corrosion / burn off the bulb holder to get the new lamp to light up at full brightness.

What would cause this? I'm guessing it would be good to replace the whole black bulb holder with new. Anyone know if this would cause an issue? looks like part number 184 772 01 ?

the new lamp is working as it should for now,
