What should a 100,000 miles VRS (in 3 years) have replaced

Hopefully the link works. I own a '65 Fabia estate and as much as I love it, I want to level up to an Octavia VRS.

This example has done 103,000 miles in 3 and a half years. I assume largely motorway miles. Price almost reflects that.

What components would you expect to see replaced by this mileage? No mention of new brakes, clutch, suspension e.t.c in advert. Would an engine rebuild be required within 50,000 miles? Slightly tempted yet wary of low price. Thank you.

Cant imagine it needs anything its got full service history ,doesnt need an engine rebuild certainly ,friend of mine bought an audi a5 with 113,000 miles on a few years back hes had no trouble with his

The Oil & Filter and Sump plug 5 times now at least.

The Air Filter should have been replaced, maybe twice at 40,000 mile intervals rather than @ 4 years.  Or at least looked at.

The Pollen / Cabin Filter.

The Spark Plugs.

The Brake Fluid @ 3 years.

The tyres might well have been changed, maybe more than once.

Maybe the driver never used the brakes much so the pads have not been changed, and maybe they were used enough that the discs are not red with rust.

If the car has been doing 30-35k per year, would expect a service to show up on the complete record about every 7 months.   Check they were done.

MOT checker says it passed at 90k miles in June.   Good sign, but as a general rule if fails with multiple important items and needs fixing to pass, suggests skimped care.

You should probably allow £1-1.5k in your budget for full service and replacement of something in next few months, if you are happy with that then could be car for you

They are bad reviews ,one place to avoid by the looks of it 🤬

If it was a £395 car with a few months MOT, I'd ignore the reviews. But spending £9K? I've never seen such bad reviews. Do they wear big hats and ride horses whilst rustling cattle?

If I were the OP, I don't think I woud travel from Plymouth to Yorkshire in lockdown2021 to buy a car from this guy. :D

My thoughts exactly - they're infamous for being bad! They do seem to have a strategy of pricing cars as the lowest in the country.

They have some amazing stock of Super Cars and an Alfa Romeo that i would love to buy.

At the moment i am only £69,000 short of the Asking Price.  I wonder if they accept Magic Beans as a form of payment.

I particularly like the review accusing them of laundering drug money

From what I can see, that's is what they would expect you to accept when they settle a warranty claim. :D

I think you'd be safe buying one of these from them though. Maybe.

@Westbury63Funny you should post that, as my partner just bought one yesterday to move logs.

When i asked how much it was & she said 18,000 Forint.  Thankfully just about £45. More thankfully i am not there to be moving and stacking them.

PS

If the Dealership in the thread was to be laundering money they would not be the only ones in the UK doing that.

Plenty of the UK's biggest Motor Groups became the size they have doing exactly that.

It even got some founders on the Queens Honours list.

Thank you all for your great replies! Those Trustpilot reviews have sealed it for me. Swerve.

As a side note, 2017 manual, petrol VRS estates don't stay on sale for long on Autotrader!

Nor do hatchbacks or autos for that matter, if they're sensibly priced.

A good thing you can do is set up some alerts for exactly what you're looking for to try and keep marginally ahead of those who just sporadically check. Keep a record of previous advertised prices as well before the cars vanish, so you can check at a glance whether something looks worth the money compared to other adverts historically (bearing in mind obviously advertised price isn't the same as what it may actually have sold for after negotiation)

I had to google which country uses the Forint. I've been to several East European countries, but yet to get to Hungary. On the list of places I want to visit. We just need this flippin Covid19 to **** off !:)

£45 is a lot for a wheel barrow? Not that Ive ever bought one. Mind you, I would buy that VRs from Motorhub for 10x that!

That is really good advice, its what I do to. :) Autotrader searches are a fantastic tool. You can do the same with Carguru, Motors, Ebay etc.

For 10x the price of that VRS you could afford the Rolls they have in the background :)

I know of motorhub. They trade from an old multi storey carpark.

They do have some very elaborate stock.

The vehicle above actually has a complete service record and was only chopped in (probably to a dealer who chose not to retail it because its milage) last week.

It's got a full service history, had the coolant regulator replaced and has skoda extended warranty on it until june this year.

I have a 2014 one , 60k miles, same colour and all .

Thermostat and housing has been changed (common fault) and front shocks also (as one was leaking)

I didn't think any of the extended warranty products covered beyond 100,000 miles? Be that ordered from new or purchased at expiration of original warranty (though I don't think the latter is transferable anyway?)

The policy is with the vehicle, not the owner. It shows as live on our system but I can't find the extended warranty Ts&Cs to confirm what the milage restrictions are.

The original 'ordered from new' extended warranty is described in one of my old price lists as...

Extended warranty total four years or 80,000 miles. O O O O O O O £212.50 £255.00
Extended warranty total five years or 100,000 miles. O O O O O O O £429.17 £515.00

...so I would assume the car in question no longer has a valid extended warranty if it's at 103,000 now. Presumably Skoda's system wouldn't show it as having expired if the last time it was seen in the network it was still under 100,000?

That's factory extended warranty that you buy when you purchase the vehicle, this has a policy that was taken out last year.

The extended warranty on used vehicles is provided by a third party and they have their own guidelines, which I can't find.

The last time it was recorded within the dealer network it was over 100k miles.

At the moment, without the documentation in front of me I couldn't say what the restrictions on the warranty are but according to the skoda system it's showing as having full component cover until June.

I can't ask the question to the relevant people either as they closed due to Covid.

Interesting, I've just checked my documents from when I took out an extended policy (through Skoda) on mine in July (so a month after this one by the sound of it) it is very explicit that it cannot be transferred to a new owner.

Quote

TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP
This Warranty cannot be transferred to another owner or vehicle.

As such, I would again suggest any potential buyers should assume it won't come as a Skoda warrantied vehicle.

As I said I can't find the information regarding the extended policy or ask the question.

Would you believe the wording in the warranty guide says "warranty does not expire with the transfer of ownership"?

It's not the first time the brand has given out conflicting information 🤷🏼‍♂️
