Adjusting Fabia vRS Fog Light height?

Featured Replies

I'm waiting for some uprated bulbs to come in for the fog and dipped beam bulbs. (Thanks to Xav and all the others who pointed out the 30% discount over the 'net!)

I notice that one of the Furby's fog lights is pointing way too low - it illuminates a patch about 10 foot in front of the car. The other one's alright.

I don't want to play with it until I get the new bulbs, but after pulling out the fog-lamp surround, can I adjust the beam height and any idea of rough standards (the rougher the better!)?

I hope that it's just a filament on one bulb, or a loose bulb. I don't want to monkey with it until after the upgraded bulbs arrive.

Thanks for any pointers!

Cheers

Bas

IMHO you cant adjust the fog lights..... sounds like its been ding'ed.....

There is an adjusting screw on either corner of the front fogs.

Am i right in thinking that there beam should be roughly level??????

Yeah, dont think there is technically any actual specs.

Do you have to take the bumper off to access those Ross?

No they are in the corners, viewable when the fog light cover is removed.

Many thanks guys!

- after changing the bulbs I adjusted the height so that they match -

the Left front one was way too low, and the right was a bit too High - now they throw a continous band of light to fill in the dark space left nearer the car by the dipped beams. I can keep a proper eye out for small potholes and furry creatures!

Proper driving lights now!

The adjust screw is a Torx type inside a plastic sleeve - thanks to Xav who told me to stop messing with an allen key (too bad we couldn't catch the stranglers' concert last weekend Xav!)

Rear fog wiring mod is almost complete - funny thing is that connector number 1 is the right one on my fabia (number 4 has been mentioned elsewhere). (Mod= By hooking up a single wire across the boot between the two rear light connectors, I'll have both rear fogs illuminate - no need to do anything else, even change a bulb!). I'm just hunting for some scotchlock connectors to make it painless on the factory-wired side. If none to be found, I get to practice my soldering skills!

Cheers

Both fog lights can be enabled or disabled with VAG-COM. I have both working on my new Octy!

I shouldn't mess about with bits of wire, mate!

Hey Thanks, I didn't know that:thumbup: .

The thing is on my fabia vRS there is an empty slot on the rear bulb array connector on one side.

Connecting this to the other side which had a wire in the same slot (number 1 on my vehicle, although briskoda posts say that number 4 is the required one) did enable the unused rear fog to work. I haven't hard-wired it in yet.

Any pointers to the relevant settings in VAG-COM before I crimp in the connection?

I'll fiddle about with it tonite!:)

Cheers,

Bas

Both rear fogs work now - I checked the rear hardwiring and there is no physical connection that I can see to the rear fog filament.

The wiring was quick and easy - all connections crimped with heavy-gauge wire. The 4-5mm stripped end that inserted into the empty connector received a dab of solder and after latching it shut, the wire is not removable and is making solid contact. Piece of cake. Those scotchlok connectors make tapping a wire into a quick squeeze job.

I remember being (very) dangerously tailgated at night (driving another car) by some drunk driver in a large american car some 15-20 years ago- I dropped a gear, pulled on the rear fogs and booted it. Totally irresponsible on my part. Fun? You bet'ch ya'!:D

(still waiting for the wisdom that's supposed to come with getting older...... One day maybe...:D )

Fog lights cant be enabled with VAG COM on a Fabia.

A word to the wise. Having just changed a fog light I can tell you that the lights shown in Lummox's pictures are later modified lights fitted '05 onwards I think. They are adjustable and very easy to change 'cos the securing screws face forwards. Reason they changed the design I suspect is because the original ones (which can't be retro-fitted) are a pig to access as the securing screws point upwards.

Unless you have double-jointed arms made of rubber, I think the only way to change the older design is to partly remove the front bumper. Not too difficult a job in fact. There is a good 'how to' on this elsewhere if you do a search.

So Basil. How much fog and falling snow do you get in Bahrain?

Its illegal here to have them on unless visibility is seriously reduced by fog or falling snow!!

Sorry to mention this. I know thats not the main reason to post but people driving around with fog lights on in good visibility really get me angry.

I'm sure you'll be waiting for a fog bank and snow storm to come sweeping in from the Gulf before you try them out Basil!!

Can anybody advise as to how I can get my fog light to point level? At the moment the passenger side is pointing to the ground while the drivers side one is level. It looks to me like something is missing from the base of the fixture that is used to hold it all together/adjust it but I'm not sure (drivers side seems to be held together with some kinda of white paste/material/gunk :D)

I know it winds me up big style too.................. Especially on modern cars which have a similar set up to VAG cars where you can't leave the fogs on by accident.....

i.e.... They have to be intentionally turned on by the driver.......

:orb_no_no

AMEN to that. People driving around with fog lights blazing, (front or rear), when the conditions don't warrant it are a b****y menace. Reckon UK condoitions probably warrant fog light use about 2 days per year.

Sorry to rant but this is a pet hate.

No way in heck would I dare to run fog lights in the UK unless conditions warrant.

However here in the Gulf legally it is permitted to use the front foglights as "driving lights" and given the extremely risky driving behaviour out here, being in a relatively small car compared to some of the larger vehicles driven recklessly by tourists, often under the influence, I turn my front ones on along with the headlights every time I drive at night.

And every time there is a sandstorm, which cuts visibility terribly (we have had about 6 of them in the last 2 months...) Also, the roads out here have a lot of debris (shredded truck tires, etc) and I'd like to have all the help I can get to avoid them.

Also I have the 5 brake light mod to make sure I do not get rear-ended...

I do not want to be a road statistic becuase some dope did not see me - there are stories almost daily of young families being wiped out on the roads here because some drunken tourist swerved in front of them in a big yank car or even drove into them head-on...

When in Rome.......

Hope this clears up any foggy issues here....

Cheers

Bas
