Time to change

Featured Replies

Well, Its gonna be time to let the octy estate go soon as its getting on a bit,  Been looking at other cars, Suzuki Vitara, Ford Focus (dunno if i could live with the badge though ) Fabia, Audi, But always seem to come back to looking up Octavia TDI'S.. My question is, With what's gone on with the emissions scandal, If i was to by another Octavia TDI, Is there anyway of finding out if its had the dreaded software update because I'm hoping to steer clear of those cars, And I'm thinking where ever i buy a car, They may be reluctant to tell me if it's been done . Thanks..

Thanks mate, Will it tell me if the update has been done or just that the car is one of them affected?

No worries. It will say 1) the fix has been done 2) fix has yet to be done 3) vehicle not affected.

Shame you need the vin. You can also check all VAG group cars for the EA189 on their websites. Audi do it from the reg no, or at least did last time  I checked a car. If it's had the fix, I just walk on. Too many horror stories for me, even with the 2 yrs warranty.

HTH :)

If the Octy has been mostly trouble free hang on to it. They go on for miles as I am sure you know. As you say when looking you come back to Octavia again. Otherwise consider a petrol to avoid all the diesel related issues. 1.5TSi looks like a decent engine, although that appears to be fairly young cars which may be outside your budget. I personally considered a 2010 100k 1.9tdi as a potential replacement for my 2005 1.9tdi 250k, if it ever came to it.

Its on 125000 miles now, Not a lot i know but Turbos starting to make itself heard, Not too bad but starting to be a little noisy, Was thinking of Going back to petrol but road tax is higher on them, some dubious reviews about some of the engines in the petrol range.   The one is was looking at is 2.0 TDI CR,  low(ish) miles. £20 a year road tax, 4  years old, Just the DPF puts me off a bit, Obviously mine doesn't have it..   It's has been a very good car and still is but if the turbo went or clutch / DMF then its not economical to repair.

The 2lt turbo was known to be a little weak on the mk2 from what I have read on here 1.9 a little lesser known. The outlay on a new car and depreciation could be just as big a cost as say a turbo or clutch/DMF.

The road tax is a factor I suppose but the savings aren’t massive. Our 1.2 105 TSI Leon is a good replacement for a 1.9TDI I love the turbo charged pull, still I love the PD shove against my Superb 2 170 CR. Please drive a CR engine see if you like it.

Better the devil you know than investing in the unknown.

Admittedly my car has been good, Not so when i first bought it 8 years ago, was plagued by all sorts, Mainly ABS sensors and Front brakes, But its been reasonably fine since, Body works ok but had some rust issues which I'm trying to keep on top of but eventually I'm going to lose that battle..  It's due the cambelt change again in September and i don't want to be spending £500 again when that could go towards another car,, Road tax issue is mine keeps increasing every year, As with all of us with older cars, A newer car with £20 road tax stays at that price, At least i think it does. Must admit, If i do move on to another car I'm gonna miss this one, Which is i think why i keep going back to looking at Skoda's as apposed to Ford, Suzuki, Audi etc.

I would keep the car you have, turbos can be noisy for years and not fail. With the cambelt  just run the risk of not getting done plenty of cars dont have them changed on time.

Thanks for all the advice, I think ill keep the car for the time being, Makes sense what you have been saying. It's still returning pretty good MPG, Better than any petrol car I've owned. Thanks again......Graeme.

With the VIN you can check the status here http://skoda-recallactions.skoda-auto.com/en?s=D&cd=1

So I put my VIN in, and it's come back with

"Dear Customer,
the service action for your affected VIN is already available. Please, do not hesitate to contact your service partner to complete this action."

Does this mean (hopefully) that the fix has not yet been applied?

Yeah it does. I believe there is a window of 30 days for their website to be updated if you read the small print. I would see that as a result and keep the car far far away from a Skoda dealer! :)

Thanks for the quick reply. That's great news. It's going to stay resulutely UNfixed!

Is there a way to know when it was done?

My was imported from Austria last year. When did they start to fix them?
