Hi the Karoq has caught my eye and Im trying to find out a few things about it, cant go into showrooms at the moment and the Skoda website isn't great for detail so I rang my local dealership and asked if the 4x4 system was permanent or Haldex...they dont know and dont know what the Haldex system is so can any one tell which it is please?

Haldex, not permanent.   I’ve come from decades of perm 4x4 LRs and haven’t noticed any differences when driving in the snow and ice we’ve had recently.  Much more snow’s forecast, like up to 50cms, so no doubt I’ll get to see what she’s like in the deep stuff this week. :D

PS We bought ours having never even sat in one, never mind driven one and have absolutely zero regrets. My ILs raved about theirs which was enough for us.  Plus a pre-registered SE came up at a very good price.

Iv found out that the Karoq Scout has been dropped from the list so I'm looking at the Sportline DSG.

Afraid I know nothing re Sportsline, lots on here do though.

I chose it because I preferred a rear seat with a solid back over the three moveable seats in the SE Ls or Editions. While many owners swear by them, I didn't like the way the contents of the boot were exposed if you folded the middle seat's back down to use as an armrest. I also preferred the solid boot cover and painted bumpers. Again others disagree, but at least you have the choice. The rear seat doesn't slide but gives you more room that the VarioFlex seats in their standard position. In theory there should be less rear legroom, but it wasn't obvious when I was measuring up in the showroom in the summer. Perhaps the Edition's leather seats are thicker and take up more space?

My 2.0 TSI is still on its first tank of fuel so far (due to covid lockdowns) but seems to be doing about 30 mpg with just trips of around 16 miles a week. Longer journeys would no doubt help the economy, but higher speeds would reduce it.

I like the comfort (the Sportline has different profile tyres to the SE L & Edition) but added the dynamic chassis control as well so it may not be typical of standard cars.

No idea if the 4x4 has ever kicked in, but it was very surefooted in what snow we had in Staffordshire.

If you've any specific queries, I'll try to help.

Same here, no idea when 4x4 side of things is kicking in, never had any issues on the sheet ice on the drive or snow and ice locally.  In places it’s too slick to walk on but our cars drive over it as if it was normal gravel.  I suspect the full winter tyres are providing enough grip that the haldex hasn’t felt the need yet.

As above, I can confirm that the Sportline is indeed the choice of the discerning buyer.......

Thanks for the replies, at the moment Im gathering information but wont be jumping in until I can actually get to see and drive a Karoq which at the moment will be March if I'm lucky, please feel free to offer more advice it all helps.

cheers Dave

I find it useful to download the owners manual too (from ŠKODA Owner's Manuals (skoda-auto.com)

This explains a lot more about how the various features work, and help you decide which options to add to a factory-build, (or to seek out on a stock car).

Some may say I tend to go overboard on factory options, but I keep my cars for years and so the extra cost gets absorbed in its generic depreciation. Hence my adding a heated windscreen, 360 degree area view, and dynamic chassis control to my Karoq. But I really wish Skoda would let you have all-season tyres on a new car without having to get rid of the summer tyres they fit as standard! (I use to go for winter and summer tyres, but don't really get enough snow in Staffordshire to justify them, and so the set I bought 8 years ago still have plenty of tread but are time-expired! And although they fitted my last 2 Golfs, they are too small for my Karoq.)

  • 4 weeks later...

I ordered mine in December with delivery for April (my choice) so still waiting to get my hands on it, but few observations/suggestions from me. Disclaimer: this is my first new car buy in 20 odd years of car ownership.

If you are not doing it already - check carwow - this took the burden of contacting multiple dealerships asking for quotes and most of the haggling. You can still haggle, I did pit my closes dealer quote against a quote from a dealer 200 miles away and got a further £500 knocked off the already great offer.

Regarding options for Karoq, there are some that are more or less no brainer IMHO:

- Family pack for £120 even if you don't have kids and don't care about the electrically operated child lock, tinted rear windows, double-sided boot math and the door bin are good deal for that price

- If intend to use dash cam, the USB-C port by rear view mirror for £130 is another no-brainer, removing the complexity of cabling. I whish someone had pointed this out to me before i ordered.

- On some specs you can get "Personalisation of Drive mode selection" for £35 - even if you don't care too much about that, it's worth considering it as you get a 3rd key included, which for £35 is a bargain

I'm still awaiting mine, ordered in December before price increase and expected to deliver in March. I ended up choosing Edition over Sportline and SEL because of the many extras the latter ones doesn't have such as leather seats,  9in Columbus and electrically adjustable seats. Also some packages are cheaper on Edition like driver assistance.

However I must say it was a hard decision as the Sportline clearly stands out among the rest for looks and I'm not very keen on the thick bumpers...

My only concern is I feel I may have made a mistake for ordering manual instead of DSG. Time will tell...
