Question

Hello to everyone,

My engine 1.4 tsi 132 broke a year ago.

I had 1.4 tsi 132kw CTHE

I bought used one, my question is:

How do i know it's also a CTHE code?

I found on timming chain cover this label, it says CTH, date: 20-3-15

But fabia 2 rs was produced until 2014

So i don't know what type of engine is it. I ask because in CTHE (rs, polo gti, ibiza cupra) had forged crank shaft and more stronger pistons, cam shaft, better injectors etc.

I'm worry about have weaker CTH (C,D etc.) From tiguan or scirroco, so i will glad for answers, thank you

CTHG seemed to have the most power and you don’t see a lot of issues with them.

Yes i know, CTHG is newest and latest version, but as i write up here, CTHE and CTHG have stronger parts like pistons, forged crank shaft etc. Because it produce 180-185hp, but if i have weaker engine now like Cthd, cthc etc. They have just 140hp, 150hp,160hp, so i'm worry about piston crack like its normal for this engines, latest version like CTHE,CTHG have better parts, that's why i asking

the seller claimed that is from fabia rs, on the label is CTH date of production 20-3-2015, on the internet it is written that fabia 2 was manufactured until 2014, and CTHE engine was manufactured until 2014, is that true? that would mean my engine is not from fabia rs,Polo gti, ibiza cupra

As far as I was aware the CTHE was up until 2014 as was the Fabia RS, whether the engine in the Seat or VW polo carried on a bit longer who knows.

Where on the engine is that sticker ?? If i can see mine will go have a look

Here I think:

Ok will go and check, I have a feeling it will show CTH as above but an E where the C is..........could be wrong tho

some more info,

The CTHE was ONLY fitted to the Polo GTI  fabia RS and Seat and ended in May 2014. None of the other VAG cars got it.

I think what you have is a CTHC from touran which is 103Kw or 140 HP made from May 2010 - May 2015

Ok so my theory although sounded good is complete trash LOL :x

heres my sticker, very similar and no obvious ref to CTHhas a C in the same place as yours.....so how you would def determine the diff I am not sure. Im sure a scan of the barcode would help though !! :giggle:

Are there definitely physical component differences, not just software/mapping?  If there were physical differences, you'd kinda expect that sticker to be specific and include the fourth letter of the code?

I understand that CTHE were still available in the Touran 132kw in Australia in 2015.

Then VW have produced or turned out refurbished CTHE's since the Mk2 Fabia vRS cars production stopped.

Differences CAVE to CTHE.

There are CTHE that had the oil squirters updated after members here got late 2012, early 2013 CTHE and still had an oil drinker,

then there are several software updates from October 2012-2014.

According to this from ETKA, the CTHE only ever went in the Polo GTi, no other VW's ever had it.

So still dont know it 😬 the only thing i know is that my engine was built in 2015, so as you write, CTHE 132kw was made until 2014, so maybe my engine  i have from weaker parts for 140hp, 150hp etc. I read that only for 132kw modification was replaced better and stronger pistons, stronger camshafts, forged crankshaft and stronger connecting rods, that sucks 😌 i know that 140,150,160hp version have problem with Piston crack,

MAYBE i have one think, for golf 5, golf6, touran, scirocco etc. They have 2 bolts on engine mounting and it have this cutout, on (poli gti, fabia rs, Ibiza Cupra) are 3 bolts and this flat, i have 3 bolts and flat. + I know for 100% that flat tipe of mountig have  larger screw pitch than with cutout (I tried it myself)

So what do u think guys?😌😌

Where did you read this?

First is from 2 bold and cutout engine mount

And lower is 3 bolt, flat, from gti rs Cupra

If I look up CTHD for Golf and CTHE for Fabia I see the same part number for crankshaft (well, from Feb 2011 onwards in Fabia). Haven't checked any other parts, but someone else may be kind enough?

crankshaft; conrod; bearings - Golf/Variant/4Motion(GOLF) [EUROPA 2013 year] (7zap.com)

crankshaft; conrod; bearings - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2014 year] (7zap.com)

My Czech reading skills are poor, but are you sure that isn't talking about differences between CAVE and CTHE engines?

The 132 kW version has stronger connecting rods, crankshafts and cams, so it should tolerate sharper handling better.  However, those who drive fast and occasionally visit the circuit should change the oil very soon, after 6000 km.  We would choose an interval of 10,000 km for Fabia as a border.  Perhaps only those who drive mostly calmly could move the interchange to 12,000 km.  Refueling of additive gasoline with an octane number of at least 98 is a must for the Fabia RS.

The CAVE engine suffered from higher oil consumption and stronger carbonation.  During 2010, however, he received a different injection and later switched to new pistons, different piston rings and a modified control unit.  The modified version of CTHE should be smarter.  From 2012, the engine should be significantly more reliable, but already in 2010 the VW Group knew about a lot of problems and solved them with gradual design modifications.  After all, this engine has been manufactured since 2005, albeit in a different power design.

On those same two pages I linked above, the connecting rods are shown as the same part numbers too. So the same items.

I did find an exhaust camshaft part number difference though, between CTHD and CTHE.

I think what you've quoted there is talking about CAVE/CTHE differences.  I think there should be a comma where the word 'of' is.

If you want some reading on the Euro 5 1.4 TSI  180 ps as in the SEAT from 2009, VW & Skoda from 2010 ( & the TFSI 1.4 185 ps in Audi A1) then here it is.

When i will disassemble the engine due replacement basic piston and replace that with forged ones, i will look at the connecting rods and crankshaft codes, in 132kw version they have crank shaft forged, as i writen, compared to weaker engine versions, so i would like to know if i have a 132kw engine or not because im going to put in APR Stage 1.

If you don't believe ETKA information about crankshafts and conrods being the same between CTHD and CTHE engines, I can't help you.

All the cranks are forged steel, nobody uses cast cranks any more and I would expect the cams to have different part numbers to denote different lift and ramp geometry.

However it is possible the pistons and conrods are different, many modern engines use sintered rods with cracked bearing caps and cast pistons.

I think you may be traumatised by the expense of the engine failure but as wino says the same part numbers should convince you.

If that ETKA says that i will believe her, so u think that CTHE and CAVE (132kw) have same parts like ctha, bmy blg etc?
