Are headlamp washers intermittent action?

Featured Replies

Maybe it is by design but I have only seen my headlamp washers on the 06 vRS work once, they appear reluctant to pop up - was showing a mate today but nothing happened, even when cycling the ignition. The windscreen is quite clean now though from all attempts to get the things to pop up

And I want to see them work again because it reminds me of R2D2 when he falls into the swamp in Empire Strikes Back.

Er, anyway, should they work everytime the screen washers are activated?

(oh no, hope not another thing wrong!)

Only when the lights are on and every time the ignition is cycled iirc.

Ah, when the lights are on, how sensible... too much sunshine today to show off the Xenons...

Of course when the lighs are on, what would be the point in washing them when they are off?

LOL :o living up to your sig me!

I like how on the Fabia the light washer only works when you hold the windscreen washer on for a number of seconds... On the Polo GTi, if the lights were on and you washed the windscreen, the lights were washed, no matter how long you held the stalk for. VERY annoying when you'd just washed and waxed the car as the headlamp washers ended up getting washer fluid all over the front end of the car!

every time the ignition is cycled iirc.

What's this?

Does it explain why they dont work everytime?

IIRC it does it once after power-up with dipped beam on, and then every 5th time. But even then there are situations where if you do something too quickly it won't.

Sometimes a seperate switch to just make it do it would be good though ;)

Concur as above. This one bugged me for a few months as the handbook's english translation makes it very unclear. Ignition on - check, lights on - check, pull and hold for a few seconds - check but, after the first time, there is a gap (and every 5th go sounds familiar) before they perform again. Fill up the reservoir and get your mate to spectate again!

This is very odd...

Mine wash the headlights every time I wash the screen (when my lights are on) but there is an approx. 2.5 secs delay.

Is this a vag thingy retro setting??

Yours is a special case though Graham. All those squashed flies !!
